: opg....?
bentjenson Aug 11th, 04, 11:22 AM Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has had good or bad experiences with Original Parts Group...
I will be down by their warehouse in Los Angeles in a couple of weeks and would like to buy a bunch of parts ( gas tank, lots of trim parts etc ), are there trim parts good quality?......are thtey reputable?
thnx
Professor_SS Aug 11th, 04, 11:51 AM there stuff is ok. their prices are ball park. I don't use them because of the shipping issues/costs and they refuse to bring things to shows for you.
John_Muha Aug 11th, 04, 12:24 PM Bought my gas tank for the 64 from these guys. It had the filler neck already brazed on. They are located in the same area.

Dan Orgill Aug 11th, 04, 12:38 PM I think the biggest thing people have griped about with OPG is their frequency of back orders. Always, always, always shop around for the best prices, and don't forget to factor in s/h.
69chevelle355 Aug 11th, 04, 12:50 PM opg is awesome except for the backorders....i usually use someone else since i am on the other side of the country from them and they are always backordering.

bentjenson Aug 11th, 04, 12:51 PM Hey thanks.....What about trim pieces?
Schurkey Aug 11th, 04, 2:52 PM Backorders...Lies about backorders...Lies about where the parts are made...Lies...more lies...Shipping next month...more lies...
NEVER AGAIN.
quikss Aug 11th, 04, 3:58 PM Same thing here-!@#$ backorders from them. They claim to have the largest warehouse for GM A bodies in the world, well the freakin thing is big but empty. They have good parts, but the hassle isn't worth it. Then again if you go to Yearone you'll be broke before your 1/2 way through your project, there prices are ridiculous. OPGI shipping to WI is insane, so I can't win with either. At least your going right to them, no shipping and you'll know right away if they don't have your parts. By the way, when your done there maybe you could let everyone else know if it really is an empty warehouse.
Have fun, Jeff
MO_chevelle Aug 11th, 04, 4:03 PM I agree 100% with Quikss, High shipping too me and many backorders. They are reasonable priced and decent quality, so if you are going there you can see what you get, no shipping and you know if it is backordered. Mark

NEVER AGAIN. Just canceled part of an order that I made in NOVEMBER  , some trim parts still on back order. They told me "good luck" finding them anywhere else. Well one call to a local supplier and I had them in hand. Cost a bit more but I had to have them.
They told me these parts have been on BO for almost 2 years, but they sure did not tell me that last year when I ordered them.
Anyway they did credit me back for those parts even though they were ordered as part of a kit.
I don't know about never again for me, but if it is back ordered I will look around before I order.
rocks66ss Aug 11th, 04, 6:08 PM If your tired of the BS from all the rest, try Hinshaws Chevelle Parts, www.hinshawschevelle.com (http://www.hinshawschevelle.com)
James Hinshaw is a great guy, and personally supports the Chevelle hobby. 336.586.0802 he sells quality parts at reasonable prices, and he actually knows about these cars.

ctrain22 Aug 11th, 04, 10:01 PM Never had any problems with back orders and quality, but they make more on the shipping. Watch your total cost. They charge shipping AND frieght. Danchuk is also in the same area. I am fortunate, I live right by NPD. It's always best if you can go right there and pick it up....make sure it's right. Check prices at Ground Up....they are usually better.
69velle Aug 12th, 04, 1:25 AM If your down in the general area, try True Connections. Look at the true-connections post somewhere on this sight, lots of good things said about them. I've been there many times even though I live 15 minutes from OPG. A much better store.

70chevelle15 Aug 12th, 04, 3:55 AM Just to backup a the problem with back orders, I ordered two items from them on the internet. It took them a week just to get the package shipped then when I got it it had only one item and they listed the other as back ordered and should arrive in 10-30 days. So I decided to call them up(which can be an experience in itself) and they told me that that item's manufacturer went out of business and they wouldn't have the part for months. I understand that it couldn't be helped that the company went out of business but they could have told me that in the 1st place. communication is poor and the 1st time i called they lied to me and said that both parts were coming. thats just not right. They lost my business.
67shovel Aug 12th, 04, 8:22 AM I have returned half of everything I ordered from them. Poor trim quality, new dented gas tanks. I called them while trying to get my money back and the guy said I was to picky and they won't sell to me anymore. That is OK with me.
kevin d Aug 12th, 04, 8:37 AM Big fan of NPD here. Called them Sunday night to order parts and they were on my doorstep by lunch Tuesday.
I like GU but won't buy anything else until the ship the catalog they have been promising me for 2 years.......

I like GU but won't buy anything else until the ship the catalog they have been promising me for 2 years....... I had the same problem with them (GU). Finally Al got them to send me one. I ordered a couple of small items and they did a good job of getting them to me, but I never heard from them again (i.e., I don't have a current catalog.) I like NPD also, but I did have a problem with them on one order, seems I placed it two different times, and after not receiving it two times I'd call in and they had no record of my order. I finally said screw it and ordered the stuff I needed from another vendor. I guess all of them can screw it up on occation.
You guys do know that their complete catalog is on their website to download(.pdf even smile.gif ) right?

BobSwi Aug 12th, 04, 11:54 AM But there's just something nice about being able to be flipping through the pages of a catalog in your hand. smile.gif
Dan Orgill Aug 12th, 04, 12:14 PM Ditto on the catalogue problem with GU.
NPD, True Connections and Hinshaw's have been the best to deal with.
TXLNGHRN Aug 12th, 04, 12:33 PM Does NPD have a web address?

Herb Aug 12th, 04, 2:47 PM NPD!!!! - free shipping on the entire order if over $300. Only charged me the over-size charge of $14 to ship a hood. Same for each rear quarter. Everything arrived in 2 days in perfect condition. They told me if it was in stock and would ship the instant I ordered it. NO BACK ORDERS. When I figured the price of the order, including the minor fee for oversize items, they saved me big money. Don't forget, you don't pay sales tax on item purchased from another state. Factor that in too.
BTW - I found that you need to call and talk to them if you want the bottom line. They gave me an additional discount I wasn't aware I was entitled to when I got the quote directly over the phone. They give you a quote number that they will honor for 30 days (I think). Needless to say, I found them to be very accomodating and the quality is fine.
smittyocat Aug 12th, 04, 3:13 PM I ordered a catalog from Gu and got it in a week, I prefer the catalog because its kind of hard to take the computer into the bathroom :D
ColoradoMalibu Aug 12th, 04, 4:21 PM I was in Anaheim last month and stopped by to check them out. They had everything I wanted in stock, and of course I avoided the shipping charges. The quality of the parts seems ok.
Stop by and judge the place for yourself.
In person you can look at the parts and decide if you want to buy them.
I've been to OPG several times, and i've been satified with their parts, when there in stock of course. For me the only problem with them, is that they do not have a lot of the items in stock.
Billy Aug 13th, 04, 6:08 AM I ordered new outside mirrors for my 70 from OPG. The drivers side was fine but the passenger side was junk. It just flops around like a dish rag. No way to tighten it up. There is no way this piece was inspected for quality before it left.

gatkins Aug 13th, 04, 8:05 AM Guys,
Here's a great place to get parts!
www.oldmusclecars.com (http://www.oldmusclecars.com)
It's Modern Chevrolet in Winston-Salem, NC. This is a resource I just recently tapped into, I purchased a goodmark hood, that they delivered to Raleigh for free, and a gas pedal that is original quality, not the cheap plastic stuff, for my '67. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Aaron Aug 13th, 04, 11:15 AM I have ordered alot of stuff from OPG. They have ALOT of parts that can't be found at other vendors. I have experienced the same back order stuff you guys have and have issue with their shipping and handling. OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!! I really do not agree of having to PAY two shipping and handling charges when they do not have something in stock. Some parts are of good quality and some not. My fender emblems came from them and I have them on my car and have not even made a crusie yet. My car is not done and it sits in a garage with a cover over it and the frickin emblems are already faded. They have lost my businness.
MonteMan454 Aug 14th, 04, 12:48 AM I just ordered a lot of stuff from them. I hope it all works out the prices are pretty good and the steel inner fenderwells were a lot less than Year One.
It was a good thing my friend recommended not ordering anything back ordered! Those sound like a big problem. They said 2-3 weeks for some stuff but it seems like they have a habit of empty promises.
It was also strange they wait 20 days to clear money orders. Have people been using counterfit money orders? They also said people cancel money orders? I was under the impression that money order were a fairly solid form of money?
I hope I don't get the screwjob on this one!
Stalkingbear Aug 14th, 04, 11:46 AM I have ordered a bunch of stuff from OPG... always backorders and lots of time to fill them... but they did fill them. I never had to pay shipping on a backorder... I was pleased with their service.... I did have to draw a picture and use one syllable words when I ordered the plastic caps the fit at the top corners of the doors on the '65 SS... these are the little 'half moon' things that finish the edge between the door and the 'rear seat' area (yeah.. I know they have a name but I don't remember and it is not important...) They kept sending me right hand sides instead of a left and right. So I sent them a drawing of what I didn't want and a drawing of what I wanted.
Remember.. this was before computers were in every house and such... snail mail sort of thing.

Chris R Aug 14th, 04, 8:23 PM Well, I must be the minority here. I have ordered several parts from OPG and I honestly have no reason to complain. I shopped around compairing prices.
Although... I do have several parts of thiers that are still in the packages I bought several years ago because of a monthly sale I wanted to take advantage of. I just didnt realize that they would sit this long without getting installed. I just hope they fit.
And yes, I had a few backorder parts in my order too. But I ordered my parts during the winter so waiting wasnt a big deal.
Bottom line for me. I will order from them again, But these mouldings I have better fit decent.
I have also had good luck with Ausleys in SC.
Chris.
JimD Aug 14th, 04, 10:57 PM Ive ordered several times from OPG, no problems yet, Knock on wood. Anyone ever heard of this place: CPU Muscle Car Parts? http://67.37.173.213/.
Ive been comparing prices on some final items for my project and they have some things much cheaper. The FAQ/about on the site is unavailable. Anything good or bad about this company?
chev65elleSS Aug 15th, 04, 5:18 AM I like to shop at Muscle Factory and True Connections, they know there stuff when it comes to these chevelles. OPG is ok, little more $ then the other places, depends on part, but OPG is the last place I'll look.
