Take a look at my site. The link is in the signature. It is not a big deal, but I built it and it is easy enough to work with. As for 'free', I don't know about that, but my wife does hosting, and she can get you the best deal in town. Contact Wendy@caz-web.com and tell her Dennis said to treat you right.

There are several free sites with built in software to help you build it, out of the three, I really prefer Webshots, they are the most "user friendly" in my opinion. Here are (3) free ones that I have used:

Webshots (http://community.webshots.com/user/69chevelless396)

Hobbystage (http://hobbystage.net/camaro/69ss396/)

Geocities (http://www.geocities.com/kz1000ltd/)

I have mine on Homestead. It's free and works for me. Check my signature. It's not too hard to create one.

If its free you can count on it not being great, and you'll probably have popups, and timeouts when you get lots of hits.

When your site reaches its limit, it's simply shut down for the rest of the month. Nothing more frustrating than closing a dozen popup windows when looking at a site for information.

If serious:
1. Get a domain name. Having an address such as http://www.geocities.com/garage/3880/ is a bit more difficult to remember than, say http://www.bluechevelless.com is (and that one's available BTW!) from someone like Namesecure.com or Dotster.com for $15 a year - less if you spring for multiple years.
2. Find a reputable host that will support you. I happen to use Globat.com for my Chevellestuff.com site - $7.95 a month (or $95.40 prepaid a year) or $6.95 a month (or $166.80 prepaid for 2 years). 2.5Gb of disk space, 75Gb a month of data transfer, 2500 e-mail accounts (imagine the frustration for spammers!), supports FrontPage software plus 24/7 FTP & Control Panel access. No popup ads, very little down time (usually late evenings/early mornings for maintenance) and even online chat support plus email of course.

My other two sites (midwestchevelles.com and dalesplace.com) are hosted free by my son so those don't count. :D
