Hey guys, I'm putting my 72 back together and of course I've nicked the body in a couple of places. How do you touch up BC/CC. Do I apply a little of the color and clear, or should I get some single stage in this color? do I have to mix up a patch of boths with all the additives and thinners?

Thanks in advance

BTW, a big thank you to all of you that helped me witht he body work the car is beautiful and I could not have done it without you guys, esp MartinSR and Wayne.

Where's the PICTURES????
As long as the the repair spots are small:
Apply the Base color by masking and spraying 2 LIGHT coats. Or for very small spots, with a tooth pick and/or piece of torn paper.
Let it dry for a day.
Very carefully wipe any excess base color (if there is any) from the clear coat around the spot.
Mix up a small amount of clear with reducer and hardener. You can apply it the same way you did with the BC, or mask it off and spray it. Apply 2 light coats. (preferred method)
Let dry for a few days, then wet sand smooth and buff.

I think that a single stage urethane would look vastly different and would be a waste of money. If it's a factory color, there's a company that advertises in Hemmings that sells touch up lacquer bottles.

I may be way off here, and definately not "kosher" but I've repaired very small spots (like a rock chip) by simply mixing a bit of base color with a bit of clear and dab it on with a tough up brush. let it dry and wet-sand it lightly and buff it out. Many times it can be nearly invisible.

One of my tricks is to drop a dab of paint into the nick and swipe it with a business card. Let it dry and polish up any surrounding excess, then repeat if necessary. Once dry you can try the same process with clear coat, followed by wet sanding & ultra fine polishing compound. Life on the road...
