Just received my new front parking lens or bezels for my '71. These come with chrome in the center that was somehow painted body color at the factory. Anyone tried painting over the chrome? My car is black and I'd like to spray the center of the lens body color.

The chrome section your gonna paint on the 71 bezel needs to be scuffed up with something like 220 grit sandpaper. Tape off the area with duct tape so there is no chance of scratching chrome. After it's scuffed, mask off, prime, and paint...

they actually sell a sticker that gets painted the body color and is applied to the chrome on the bezels, you need to put flex additive in to the paint

The GM parts (still available by the way) come with the strip of self adhesive "paper" that you paint to match, then stick in place.

You wouldn't happen to have a part # would you?
The place I order GM parts from is good for new car stuff but as soon as I mention 1971 anything they balk and say its not available.Mine are all pitted but the strip was there.

Sorta off-topic, but has anyone tried that POR chrome paint? Sometime I need to find out how much rechroming costs cuz I have a few pieces that can't be bought that need it.

I tried that number at gmparts direct and it said the price was like 2.70 so I'm thinking it must be the number for just the sticker.

yes that is the number for the sticker that gets painted the color of car and applied to center of bezel.
