: Serpentine!
Purs Oct 4th, 04, 10:25 AM I've learned so much from TC I thought I'd share a success story. I decided to switch to a serpentine setup and have been please with the results. I've got all the part numbers for the pulleys if anyone is interested. This setup has seen 6500 several times with no problems.

Purs Oct 4th, 04, 10:58 AM '86 1 Ton with a 454. Part numbers are:
Crank Pulley: 14087537
Waterpump Pulley: 14087536
Alternator Pulley: 10496811
Install was easy.
Xtreme70SS396 Oct 4th, 04, 1:07 PM That looks great! No idler arm? Power steering not modified?
novaderrik Oct 4th, 04, 1:22 PM that's not a "true" serpentine setup. it is just a regular setup with a wide flat 6 rib alternator belt. it uses the same brackets as a regular v belt setup, just different pulleys.
i have a similar setup on the small block in my Nova- mine is off an 87 Caprice cop car with a 350. the junkyards are full of these setups, so you don't need to buy new stuff if you don't want to.

Maybe I should try that instead of saving the money for a March system and/or even trying to modify my current power steering pulley bracket.
Looks really good Purs, great job! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
ZZ69chevelle Oct 4th, 04, 2:11 PM I went the same way on my SB. I got the pullies from a mid 80's suburban, and a 2 groove PS pulley from someone on here. IMO, it looks closer to stock than the newer serpentine setups do, and works better than the V belts did. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
I have the same thing on my 86 Monte Carlo SS, it came from the factory that way.
AdamLym Oct 5th, 04, 6:28 PM Anyone have a part number for a SBC water pump pulley so I can do the same thing? I havent been able to find one

Nice setup.I'm in the middle of a CS series alternator upgrade maybe I'll try using the s-belt setup also.
Adam,
Novaderek is right. You should have no problem finding a WP pulley in boneyards.86 and up all small blocks have those pulleys.

I thought "Serpentine" meant only one belt.

Dean,
You're right. This is not a true serp setup, but using this pulley set you don,t have to change your existing water pump for a reverse rotation WP that a true serpentine belt requires. graemlins/clonk.gif
What he has is a poly v-belt setup.
gearheads78 Oct 20th, 04, 2:04 PM I have been searching for this for a small block and can't find any so far. I'm tying to head to the junk yard tomarrow morning. Does anyone know for sure what years I am after? Was this a 86-87 only ? I think 88 + is serpintine isnt it?
Thanks

Chevl_Steve Oct 21st, 04, 10:54 PM I did the 454 truck serpentine setup .....but I modified it. I wanted to NOT use a reverse water pump and had already bought a chrome high flow long water pump.
I welded on a bracket to add a pulley that allows me to do this.

Other side you can see the belt coming over the water pump pulley. That Pulley I did have to get aftermarket since it's rather unusual, being grooved.
