Plenty of room - even for big block '65's.

Remember:
1) Replace the factory '65 resistor distributor power wire with conventional stranded wire. Be sure to replace the full length of the wire up to the fuse block. If you don't do this you will not get a full 12 volts to the HEI.
2) With the HEI you will no longer need the starting power wire that went from the starter solenoid to the coil. In the factory points distributor this wire provided a full 12 volts to the coil ONLY while the engine was being started.

Absolutely! I know of quite a few guys that didn't do this. They always end up putting a switch in to get it to work. The original system will only put out around 8V when the key is in the "ON" pos. Thats so you didn't burn your points up back in the day. You gotta have the 12V.

Or you could stay with the original distributor/keep the stock appearance and install a Petronix HEI conversion kit for about 60 bucks or so and have HEI that way. Just throwing out another option for ya. Good luck either way. Tony
