the complete grill on my 67 ss chevelle is very straight but the flat black paint on it is faded.

how do i go about repainting it or restoring it?do i have to remove the clear coat or is the flat black painted over the clear?and would you just buy some flat black in the can to paint it or is there some thing else to paint it with?

I went over the black with real fine steel wool and then taped off the grill and used some left over Eastwood under hood black.

Chris, I repainted my 67 grill by scuffing the black area with maroon scotchbrite, taped off the bright area's with 3M blue painters tape, sprayed the black area's with spray can black epoxy paint. It came out sort of semi-gloss and is tuff as nails. Redid the headlight surrounds and outer grills this way too and they look awesome. Mike

so you did'nt have to take off the clear?
