: Vintage Air in a 67 (vents)
Chuck Dec 17th, 04, 12:14 AM I am installing a Vintage air Sure Fit kit in my 67. They sent me a center vent that goes in the middle of the ignition switch bezel that runs across the dash. That isn't stock, right????? I am unsure about cutting that into the dash to install the upper vent. (function vs coolage).
They reccomend removing the dash. It was a lot of work to install a new harness and install it the first time. I might be able to just tilt the dash forward and do the uper install and not pull the dash. Anyone else done this instal?
Thanks
Chuck
66BBCONV Dec 17th, 04, 12:59 AM Chuck,
I am doing the same thing on my 66.
To me the Vintage Air vents just don't look good, that includes the center one and the side vents.
I elected to go with a stock AC dash and vents, much better set up in the long run. Good luck with the project.

DaleM Dec 17th, 04, 9:02 AM The factory A/C had the center vent in the middle of the dash strip. Agree that I wouldn't cup this piece to install it. I put V/A on my 67 (non-factory air) and did not use any of the vents that came with it. I had a custom dash so decisions were a bit easier and I used "slyder" (sp?) style billet vents. A round unit on each lower side of the dash and one in the center where I originally had a DIN-size stereo. They look really nice but billet vents tend to "sweat" when they're used.

Jesse66Original Dec 17th, 04, 9:43 AM I installed a V/A system in my 66 back in 2000, I was doing a frame off at the time and had the dash out anyway. I do believe you would have to have the dash out to route everything, it seems I got ahead of their instructions and found out they needed to be followed. You can look at my signature and see what the V/A vent system looks like in the interior picture. Hope this helps.

Chuck Dec 17th, 04, 11:32 AM WOW! Beautiful car Jesse. I think I will put in the upper vents. Looks good.
Thanks

Jesse66Original Dec 17th, 04, 6:07 PM Chuck, Thanks for the nice words about my 66, if I may say so go slow on cutting the center vent, the template can be somewhat misleading, so start undersized and work from there. It has been three years since I installed mine but if you have any questions I will try to help you.

67ss Dec 18th, 04, 10:54 AM Can you guys post some pics of the system uninstalled and after it is installed?I want to see what it looks like before it goes in and after it is finished, underhood and interior. My 67 is a factory a/c car but would like to see how the newer stuff looks.
Jesse66Original Dec 18th, 04, 11:45 AM John,
I do not know how to post pics (sorry, old dog new tricks thing) so I will send you an e-mail with a couple. My car was a non A/C car ok. If you look at my interior picture in my signature you can see what the unit looks like inside, also look just below the glove box door and you will see the evaporator, one minus is you loose almost all of your existing glove box area. I hope this will help you.

flywheel Dec 18th, 04, 2:55 PM I installed a VA in my 66 also. The side vents they sent were junk (one was broke anyway) so I took some out of my loaner car and fabed them into my non air car. But I used the center vent from VA. I used a mini air saw to cut mine out. Like above, just go slow an fit as you go.

Herb Dec 18th, 04, 6:23 PM Wish you were closer. I have an entire A/C stock dash available. I'm removing it and installing a non-A/C dash as part of my frame off project right now.
Chuck Dec 19th, 04, 12:13 AM Rick,
I installed the dash when I did the frame off and put a new harness in the dash. I know what a pain in the butt it was, plus I have the optional gauge dash cluster so I have extra lines too, like the oil pressure line to deal with.
Did you have to completely remove the dash to install the upper vents? It seems that most of the work can be done by removing the bolts and tilting the dash out far enough to get the defroster vents in and cut the upper center vent holes.
What do you think?
Thanks
Chuck
