I'm looking at a 70 mailbu with a black vinyl top which I don't care too much for. The top is in great condition....I just prefer the look of a solid color car. Would there be any problems with removing the vinyl top before repainting. Any special considerations I should be aware of......thanks!

You should remove the top before painting, because youll have to do some body work under there Most likely. And you will have to remove the studs that hold the molding on. Don't take the vinly off and leave this molding, looks very bad,(well in my opinion).

Cars with tops had rough quarter to roof seams.sometimes you will find epoxy(in later models, not sure about 70) in the seam and probably lead. You dont want to put plastic filler over the lead because it will bubble.( i found out the hard way)I think the recommended way is to melt the lead out with a torch and then use filler.I never did that, maybe someone else here could verify that?

Why not put epoxy primer over the lead before putting on the plastic filler, assuming the lead is in a low spot.
