Are there any members out there who use this system or have good knowledge about it? I have almost three years and over $18K invested in my car and want to keep it.

I know it's somewhat expensive to have it installed, but it is worth every penny if you want to get your car back when it's stolen. I think they have like a 90% success rate or something like that.

Plus, you'll get an insurance discount!

I think someone on here said the whole system installed is about 800 bucks.

Yeah, LoJack is a really cool deal. I work at a auto dealership in the finance department where we sell LoJack. The cost to us to have LoJack come to where ever your car is and install the full system is 590. This is the all options system. There are lower cost option systems available apparently, but we only sell the full bore one. It is a really cool system and they do have a high success rate, lots of police cars have the lojack tracking equipment integrated into their systems, instant tracking.

Rick,

Do your homework on the Lojack system before you buy. I’ve heard lots of good things about the system and I’ve heard a few negative things. I have a friend who is a county cop and he told me that only a few cars in the county are equipped with Lojack tracking system and there’s no guarantee that a car is available when your car is REPORTED STOLEN. I’ve also heard that not all police departments participate with Lojack. Also remember that Lojack does not look for your car until you call them. If your car was stolen days before you were aware of it your chances of recovery are less than if it was stolen hours ago. I’d contact your local police and see how their coverage is in your area. It’s probably a great system if all things go your way.

Good luck,
Bubba

I don;t have lowjak I have onstar but it is the same thing for the most part. I think that it is great, and who cares about the gov. I am not doing anything illegal and I am not scared that the gov. is following me. There are too many people for the gov to track us (unless we are doing something illegal). I spend less on my truck now tan I did my previous truck that did not have onstar.
I had a 2000 1500 Extended Cab short bed 2wd LS
I now have a 2002 2500 HD Extended Cab Long bed 4x4 LT and I pay $40 less a month for the same insurance when I paid $10K more for the truck.

I have also seen specials with LOWJAK and I think that it is a great security device and I would get it for my chevelle once I get it near completion.

Dennis, yeah, the tech i know is named Ed Woodworth. His son is one of my good friends. He has helped figure out crazy problems on my car many times. A really smart guy with a good head for cars.

I've heard that a cop has to be around your'e car for it to activate. The onstar system is pretty good from what i've heard and i think theres a monthly charge for that stuff.

Any of the smarter crooks stash the car for a few days to see if it has Lojack. After 3days they cut the car apart and go on their way.

Lo Jack in populated areas like NYC, Chicago, LA etc. is a great idea.

I had one in my 64 Malibu convertible that I just sold. And I got a $1500 premium because i had it !!!
