I am hoping to finish a BBC buildup that the guys in the Performance section have been helping me with. Now it's time for paint. The rest of the car is PPG radiance candy and I was hoping that there will be a way to paint the block, heads, etc and have it last. Can it be done? If not, what is the best engine paint for a daily driver? It will see a lot of miles but I am meticulous about detail and want it to look better than the usual Chevy Orange.

If your block is bare iron you can epoxy prime it,then spray it with single stage urethane in your choice of color. It will look and hold up better than rattle can chevy orange. Here (http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/ochrisl/detail?.dir=726c&.dnm=f92d.jpg) is my engine painted with hugger orange ChromaOne (Dupont) to match the car.

I was hoping to paint it the same PPG Radiance candy color as the rest of the car\engine compartment. Is Urethane single stage the only stuff that will work good?

I painted my 454 the same body color. Sunset orange. Used the same BC as the car BUT only put one coat of clear over it,looks great. Do clean, and degrease the block first. I then sprayed a 2k primer on it B4...

No you can use baseclear to paint your engine. Just SS is easier to use.
The trick is to use an epoxy primer first(1 coat) then spray on your color and clear.
This method WILL outlast any rattle can paint.
Hey sevt
You get Road Runner?

Rattle can paint looks great for a month, maybe, depending on use.
The same base coat/clear coat you are using will look great on your motor and keep a shine as long as the exterior.
The epoxy primer is a great underbase, as it's thick and has a high build in 3 coats. It can fill the rough cast finish, after sanding of course.
Be sure to thoroughly de-grease, metal etch and use a prep cleaner.
The smoother it is, the easier it will be keep clean and shiney.
Another side benefit of an epoxy and multiple top coat paints is it helps prevents oil leaks ;)

Thanks guys. So I don't have to be worried about the heat cooking the paint and discoloring it on the heads?

Nope. Not if you use epoxy and/or urethane.
