: driping in floor board when it rains, but not from windshield
tas May 15th, 04, 10:26 PM I have a 67 Chevelle 300 Deluxe. When it rains I get a slow drip in the passenger front floor. It comnes out of the heater box, and no it's not the heater core leaking. It only happens when it rains.
A couple years ago I pulled the windshield out and cleaned out the area it sets in. Had a guy reseal and install a new windshield. So I'm pretty sure it's not the front glass. The leak was there before I removed the windshield and is still leaking today.
Any ideas on where to look? I find it odd that it's coming out of the heater box.

BillsCamino May 15th, 04, 10:34 PM Check the rubber grommet that the radio antenna passes thru. Gotta remove the wiper arms and cowl panel to see it.
tas May 15th, 04, 11:19 PM Bill,
The car originally didn't have a radio or antenna. I installed both, but put in a rear mounted antenna.
Is there still a plug where the antenna lead gromment would have been?
Thanks, tas
RickM May 16th, 04, 1:19 AM Look through the cowl grill on the passenger side right under the window for a plug. Leaks in rain only. Sitting, driving or both? You no doubt are looking at removing cowl vent piece and can think of 3 places in there that could be the leak.
MikeJ May 16th, 04, 9:22 AM On the engine side of the firewall there is a box that encloses the heater stuff. might be leaking through there
cjlandry May 16th, 04, 10:54 AM Mine leaks on the driver's side like that. It drips directly onto the parking brake pedal. It's a leaky seam that I can't get to without pulling the fender off and cutting into the sheetmetal around it.
Ok... today I pulled off the wiper arms and cowl panel. Used a tube of that clear sealant everywhere I could. Found the plug where the gromment for the antenna would be, put a bunch of sticky gunk there. Put a big bead on the heater box.
Went ahead and greased the wiper transmission while I had everything apart.
Well it's spring time in the South and rain is in the forcast everyday. Lets see what.. or should I say "Lets hope I don't see what happens".

suprfreac May 19th, 04, 4:20 PM I know I just dealt with a leak that only dripped on the passenger side when it rained. After dissembling the heater box (inside) and taking it out, I found another type of core on the outside of the passenger compartment, but behind the firewall. So, after removing the cowl, inner wheel well, and passenger fender, I finally located the the problem and it has to do with factory air condenser and the gasket that seals the factory air box (ouside behind the fender) to the inner heater box (inside cabin). After 38 years, the drip rail that's part of the gasket finally deteriorated and allowed water running down from the cowl to enter through the heater box. Talk about a pain in the ARSE!!
Needless to say, it took me about a month to fix it trying different methods to 'patch' the original gasket. Unfortunately, there are no manufacturers that make this seal so it had to be something custom. I posted this problem awhile back on the heating and a/c board and nobody responded. I'm surprised only a few people have mentioned the problem on this board with the number of A/C cars out there.
I'm not sure if this helps, but if your car came with A/C, it would be something to look into!!
My car is non a/c.
Last weekend I removed the cowl panel and sealed everywhere I could reach.
No rain yet, but some in the forecast this weekend.
Thanks,
tas
