I'll be helping a friend weld in a floor pan replacement on a 68 Nova. Should we lap or butt weld ? Any other tricks ?

thanks

If it was me, I would butt weld. less chance of future rust being able to set up. Its alot harder to but weld because you have to be precise on your cuts. you could lap weld it but you would need to seal the top of the pan around the weld with seam sealer and under the car with seam sealer to keep moisture from getting under the overlaps.JMO

Butt welding is best. A butt welded joint is plenty strong and is easier to clean up once you're ready to restore the finish.
