: Rear Window Molding HELP!

I have a 1970 Chevelle SS that was just painted at a body shop. When I purchased the car there was no molding on the rear window. I purchased the molding set from Aushleys and the rear window clips from OPG. The body shop could not get the molding to clip down (one side on the other would pop off). He did pull the window and put it back in when he painted it and said he did it right (been working on muscle cars for 25+ years I believe him).

Has anyone run into a problem with aftermarket moldings? Any ideas that might be causing this. He said the package said they are the right clips but said something about maybe using smaller clips (1") -- does that make sense to anyone?

Please help.

If he possibly has used a 3/8 butyl to put the window in instead of 5/16 that would leave the window a touch too high and you may not get the mouldings on because of that. Just a thought.

Since he's experienced, let's assume he used the proper thickness ribbon (or urethane) to reset the window. I would take off a clip and see how it fits the molding without it being on the car. Has to be either the clips, or the thickness of the ribbon.
