Can anyone tell me where I can get the best price on a stock 454 flywheel?

I just picked mine up at Advanced Auto Parts for $140. I don't know if this is a real good price, but they are getting hard to find in the Rochester area. I notice that some of the auto places on ebay has them for the same price.

By the way, that is one nice 66.

Thanks, Has a NOM L78 roller motor with 4:11's. I've got an LS6 and M-22 that I'm putting in it for next summer. Will be a roller also. It will look like a 396 unless someone looks at the casting #'s or the balancer. Will put the 069 manifold, etc. It ran good with the L78 so this should be real fun. :D :D

Where is everyone getting these 4.11:1 gears from? The Chevrolet option was 4.10:1.

Earlier model Chevrolets were 4:11's which I had a couple of and the number just stuck. I think corvettes were 4:11's also up to 67.

I ended up buying my flywheel from auto zone
then they accepted the core that I had which was not the same casting (the one I needed is for the new style crank on the 350 and the old flywheel was from an old style crank)
$145 then got $100 back for the core ended up costing $45 plus tax (I thought that was a great deal)
I did want the bigger flywheel like I originally had but they had no listing for that and it would have cost over $200 for a GM HP for the clutch setup I had (I kept that setup for a future project)
kinda stunk that I had to buy one to begin with since I've got 5 other ones laying around (none fit the new style crank though)

66ss,

I have been recovering from the "Chevelle Garage Sale"....I can't belive how much time it took...still getting some parts out the door.

I know I have at least one original 454 flywheel.

I think I may have a second...SFI rated...and new.

Shoot me an email to ogawas@yahoo.com, I will try and get you a picture.

I don't know if its the same, but my manual flywheel for my 454HO was about 120.00 new from GM.

Since they wanted a core I am assuming thay are selling you a resurfaced USED flywheel???

Why anyone would mess with reconditioned flywheels from "The Zone" on a high RPM motor is beyond me. $120 is really nothing for the new wheel. If it is new GM I would not use anything else except possibly (POSSIBLY) some high perf. high RPM certified unit.

Just not worth risking your feet / legs. I can just hear them at the Zone as you sit in your wheel chair..."Well we do stand by the flywheel up to the amount you paid for it".

Not me.

I agree with the high performance
in my case the convertable is not for racing
just sunday drives and parades
my 69ss has a blowproof bellhousing and that in my opinion is the best insurance policy for high performance
