I just acquired a 67 convertible malibu/SS clone and am new to chevelles. What color is 761, what trim is M2 and below these numbers are 30391 and 050072. Can anyone help me to know what they represent? It is missing the top windshield header stainless trim in the center and the pinchwell mouldings at the base of the convertible top. Any suggestions on where I can locate these pieces would also be appreciated. Thanks.

These are not VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) codes, they are body number plate codes. The VIN plate is on the A-pillar, driver's side, between the door hinges. smile.gif

Trim code 761 is a black bench seat, M2 is Royale Plum (M) and 2 is a black convertible top. The rest of the numbers seem to match those of a Fremont, CA (BF) car. Each of the six plants making Chevelles in 67 had a little different arrangement of some of the codes. The first group, 30391, are tracking codes and their significance isn't known to my knowledge; the second group, 050072, happens to match the tracking number on the trim broadcast sheet identifying options.

For the trim pieces, you might try posting in the Interior forum or maybe the Restoration Corner forum.

Thanks for the info. Yes it is a 67-13667 with a BF00369 . The VIN is 136777157746 Is the Paint code 761 for a Marina Blue color? That's what it looks like under the door panels though the car is painted red now. IS the convertible top supposed to be black or the plum color? Again thanks for your knowledgeable assistance.

Here's an example of a Fremont, CA body number plate:

06A
ST..67-13667..BF00369 BODY
TR..761..............M2....PAINT
....30391........050072

761 is the interior trim color and seat type, black imitation leather bench seat. M2 is the paint color, Royal Plum (M) with a black convertible top (2); Marina Blue would be coded 'F2' with a black convertible top.

Your VIN still appears incorrect and missing a letter for the assembly plant. It should read 136677Z157746, where 13667 is a Malibu V8 convertible, 7 is the model year, Z is for Fremont, CA and 157746 is the sequential production number starting at 100001 for Fremont. This means that your Chevelle was the 57,746th Chevelle unit off the assembly line at Fremont for the 1967 model year.

Royal Plum was not a popular color in the 70's and 80's and the car was probably painted Marina blue sometime in its life and repainted again in red. Royale Plum is making a comeback and is a somewhat rare color to find these days.
