If you want your car back have a police officer escort you too the shop and demand your car.. Otherwise start going there every day and watch them work.. This tactic does get your work done..

Oh man, I've been in your shoes, I feel your pain. I would talk to the head person in charge of your car. Tell him your concerns and complaints in a nice way. It's a fine line, on hand you want a quality job but on the other you want your car back which is understandable. If he (they) are avidly working on the car and its not just sitting collecting dust then I would leave the man alone and let him work, it will pay off in the end with the quality of work IMO

Good luck. My 5 week paint job on my 67 turned into 9 months, but hey it look SWEET..

Your in an awkward spot there and I speak from experience. Did you pay the guy upfront?
If so you are in an even tougher situation.
In my situation I paid 500. for materials up front with the balance due on completion, my car was in the shop for 9 months. Probably actually worked on for 3-4 weeks total. Finally after 8 months of frequent visits and joking around about the time he was taking I sat down with him one morning and we looked at his schedule for the next couple of weeks and set a hard date that was agreeable to both of us, with the understanding that I was sending a rolloff that day if it wasn't done. I mean an actual date on the calendar cause promising in 3 weeks or whatever never seems to work, weeks never start and they never end. Keep your cool but express your frustration and try to work to a date you both agree too. That guy has to pay the bills too and jobs like these aren't how they pay the bills, it's the quick in and out jobs that keeps the lights on and pays the guys. You are not alone on this there are probably 50 guys on this board with similiar experiences. The last thing you want to do after all this time is rush the guy into doing a halfa$$ job. Good Luck I feel for ya!!

That's not the record by any means. I took my El Camino back from a guy that had it for 20 months and only sanded it down and did a few other minor things for $800.00. The body shop that has it now has had it for 30 days come this Monday and they're using it to store their empty soda bottles..for now. I sold my numbers matching 69SS cause when this car is finished, I'm buying finished cars from now on.
