sleepless69 Dec 2nd, 06, 10:20 PM I'm 46 (single) I've been a gearhead since the 70's...I'm an electrician currently gainfully un-employed. I got back from my last job in July of 06, I worked a year in Iraq at LSA Anaconda. I'm pretty much an expat these day's "when I work" its overseas 7 - 12's a week & when I play its also 7 - 12's a week.
I've lost count on how many of these projects I've done, but I needed something to haul my scooter, & I've always liked El Caminos. I'm currently riding my second VTX 1800 cruiser, this 1 is tricked & custom while my dyna wide glide sits in the garage...lol
Johnny O Dec 2nd, 06, 10:38 PM Well, I probably answered this about 32 pages ago, but here we go...Im 54, married (second time) to a wonderful wife who is also a car freak. I am self employed for 11 years now, after a 15 year stint with Federal Express. I am a tub, sink and tile refinisher. I also do repairs on acrylic and fiberglass tubs, and am a rep. for Jacuzzi. Like that's not enough, I also repair work for two supermarket chains, and two restaurant chains in the northeast. General repairs..Floor repairs, ceilings, painting, carpentry, welding, door repairs, etc. And I contract out my services to help with installations and repairs of trash compactors and cardboard bailers for a few companys. Just did a new Lowes last Wednesday, working with a guy out of NYC area. When I can find the time, mostly in the spring and fall, I teach Stained Glass and hot glass working classes at a local high school or community college. That's very time consuming though, and I havn't done a class in the last two years. That's it.
busterwivell Dec 3rd, 06, 1:28 AM OK, I'm 60........own my third 66 Chevelle.........it's close to done. I am a Hearing Aid Dispenser, and own my own practice for over 20 years. That's what I do for a living, but I enjoy volunteer work as much as playing in my shop. This year I got to go to Guadalaja, MX for a week, helping 800 kids hear better, and next year I get to go to Mexico City and Nicaragua and do the same. I also volunteer with the Flying Samaritans, so you can understand why I can't get as much done in the shop as I want to sometimes. It'll get better when I retire!
supershift67 Dec 3rd, 06, 1:45 AM Im 32 and work as a Ford tech. for the last 9 years and was a t.v. repairman before that.I am currently looking for a different job.I have 2 kids that take up most of my time but when I have time I work on my cars,a 67 chevelle wagon ,67 2dr malibu ,69 chevelle, 55 chevy and 57 chevy along with 10 other projects tha I will never get to.

65bomber Dec 5th, 06, 12:03 AM I'm 29 years old. I have been working for the US Coast Guard for the past 10 years now. I am an IT manager in San Diego, and have been here for a little over a year. I have owned my 65 Chevelle since 1994. It is my high school sweet heart. I cruised around with Big Red almost every day for the past 12 years. I drove him across the country twice. Once when I got stationed in Baltimore and then again when I drove him back home to my parents place in Topanga Canyon, Los Angeles county. While I was in Baltimore I drove up and down the Eastern Seaboard 4 times. When I left Baltimore I got stationed in Seattle. I took him as far up as Whister B.C. He has been up and down the West Coast 4 times. Sadly the 4th time I took him down I had him on a trailer. He now sits at my parents place and I am currently restoring him. I just picked up my new engine block the other day. Now I have to find the right stroker kit to build it. I am doing a 383 and am hoping to be putting at least 400 HP to the tires. 400 is bare minimum for me. When it is completed it will be carb'ed. Eventually I am going to throw that edelbrock EFI system on it. I just wish the military paid more than it did. Oh' well though. You guys and your/my freedoms are well worth it in my eyes. Semper Paratus.

swcash Jan 22nd, 07, 1:03 AM Hello, my name is Francis and I'm a 59 year old carburator head. I'm a tired HVAC engineer. I mean a retired HVAC engineer from the County of Orange. Currently assembling a Megasquirt DFI CPU for my Mini Big Block 454.
I think it should be something like this:
Up to 500 cubic inches = Small Big Block Chevy (SBBC)
501 to 600 cubic inches = Medium Big Block Chevy (MBBC)
601 to infinity = Big Big Block Chevy (BBBC)
Another idea is to specify the block in Quarts insted of cubic inches or Liters
Since 1 liter = 1.057 Quarts
Exanple: 7.4 liter would become 7.819 Quarts
8.1 Liter would become 8.55 Quarts
I just love working on my Corvettes that have metric size hex heads with USNF threads. One metric nation under god.:noway:

fmfrm250 Feb 14th, 07, 5:18 AM 33 years old, bachelor degree in combined social sciences from youngstown state university. That is where jim tressel coached before ohio state. Landed a killer job out of college that moved me to the other side of US in kingman Arizona then the parent company sold the steel division and out we all went 6 months later. Been a social worker since then but recently quit because social work is not my gig. ( underpaid ) So I am looking for something to build a relatively good life and career. I also do some consulting work for the timeshare industry. Not my cup of tea either but pays the bills. Don't want to go back to school. But it looks that way. ANyway I have a # matching 68 SS chevelle, 68 SS Camaro. Just sold my other car. A numbers matching 70 GTO. The bodyshop botched the paint really bad. SO instead of killing the body shop I sold it. Out of sight out of mind really works. It actually ended up in canton Ohio which is just 45 minutes west of where I grew up. ANyway I love old cars and old car parts. I wish I knew more. But its funny how your knowedge increases every step of the way and how jobs that took 1 1/2 hours now take 25 minutes. I have a wife that is awesome and 2 step kids. One Girl and one boy. Three cats. Two females Mia and Patches. One male named ODB( Old Dirty Bastard ) he smoked to much green stuff as a kitten ( Thanks to my step son and his friends) now he has asthma and weighs over 25lbs and does not clean himself. In a way its funny because he like a lazy pot head in cat form . Not funny money wise though this cat cost me about 4k when his asthma appeared. Damn step kids! Well you know the whole story now. This site is great and has been extremely helpful. Thanks again everyone.

BeautifulPoe Apr 2nd, 07, 3:25 PM I was going to read all of the posts before I hopped on, but when I got to page 12, I figured I'd never make it to the end! So here goes;
I just turned 24 and work for Weis Markets as a Graphic Designer. I'm single, but I have a cat and a '72 Chevelle in Hugger Orange, so it's all good.
My dad is a mechanic (yay for me!) He owns a Navy '31 Chevy Coupe, a Yellow '32 Ford Hot Rod with a Chevy Engine :) (It looks just like Milner's) and a Red '57 Chevy Bel Air. My dad has mostly been working on my car, since I don't know much about mechanics, though he did let me change the taillights and bulbs the other day and fasten the mirror, lol.
He keeps saying my car is "too much of a guy car" for me, but I think he just wants to keep it for himself. :p
Murphdog Apr 2nd, 07, 4:22 PM Well I figured this would be a good first post. Im 24 and Im a mechanic. I have a 72" Chevelle with a 505 and a little juice to go with it.

silver chevelle Apr 5th, 07, 9:39 AM I’ll add 1 for the older crowd here.
Just turned 59, married for 32 yrs, 2 sons, 1 granddaughter with another grandchild on the way. My wife and I are retired from a 3M, main reason being, we had the numbers (age and years of service) to get our pensions and wanted a change. I worked in plant engineering and held jobs ranging from maintaining equipment to being the site maintenance planner-scheduler.
I was an Army helicopter crew chief in Vietnam, 68-69, with the 1st Infantry Division. Got my 70SS the day after I returned from Nam, and still have it.
We live on and operate a smaller grain/vegetable farm that has been in the family since it was homesteaded by my great-grandfather 125 years ago. Now, I do seasonal part time jobs ranging from helping a CPA with income tax work, to running a pea harvester for Del Monte Corp in the summer. So, any Del Monte peas and sweetcorn you eat may have been grown on my farm or could have been harvested by me.
We enjoy traveling, and have been doing various types of camping/RV’ing since married, currently with a 30’ travel trailer. And, I have had motorcycles since high school, but haven’t driven for a while. Last year we got a Honda Gold Wing, and are back into biking. Number 2 son built a custom bike that has parts spread out across the country for chroming and painting now, but should be finished this summer. http://img236.imageshack.us/img236/3999/p8020269gm0.jpg

willthom Apr 6th, 07, 6:15 PM Hey Willthom, about half my family lives in Murfreesboro, ole Mt. Juliet boy myself.
Hey yourself!
Mt Juliet and The Boro are pretty cool places. I just moved here 8 years ago (I grew up in Los Angeles and waaaaay out in the middle of nowhere TN), but I dig it around here.
:beers:
plain 69 Apr 8th, 07, 9:05 AM Well this post is very old. I forgot if I posted in this one several years ago or not. I will be 40 this month and have been married for seventeen years in June plus I have 3 young guns. Son is 12, Daughter's are 10 and 4.
Worked as a factory rat for about 20 years until I found out factories are not the place to be employed for making steady living anymore. I am now a Building Mechanic taking care of a communication giant's buildings as far as making sure phone equipment (switches) stays a cool 65-72 degrees, making sure everyone has running water, making sure you can see at your job as far as lighting and every other problem that comes up.
I have owned several Chevelles and have owned the one I have now since 1995 and I do work on it every now and then. Hopefully have her painted by the end of the summer. That is my goal. I don't want to install the drivetrain right now because I will start driving it and not worry about the paint like my last 3 Chevelles.
captnmike50 Apr 8th, 07, 6:27 PM 56, two grown kids, I'm an empty nester. Have a 66 Couple, bought it three years ago. My second "66 coupe. First one was in the late "60. I wore it out going back and forth to school (and midwest rust also took its toll). I am the GM of a wholly owned pubically owned company. Wife of 34 years will only go out in the car with ear plugs or new mufflers. I drive it alone alot.
Car_Freak Apr 9th, 07, 3:27 PM 18 here, been a tire buster for a few years, now im goin to school full time for my first year mechanic apprenticeship. Been "working" on cars with my dad since i was about 10 years old.

1968SS Apr 12th, 07, 1:47 AM Wow, what an enlightening post!! I'm 59 still looking for something to do when I grow up!! My 68 SS396 is a duplicate of the one I bought new as an Enginering student at the University of Nebraska. From looking at most of your ages, most of you were not born during the late 60's and early 70's when muscle cars were king. What an wonderful time! At the little bar that I used to hang out in the summertime, there was so much horsepower parked out on the street, it was mind-boggling!! SS396's, a GTO JUdge, A six-pack GTX, a hemi roadrunner, a 413 wedge Belvedere, a 440 Charger, a Z-28 Camaro, all in a town of 1100!! Consequently, there was a little street racing going on. After graduation and a 5 year gig working as an Engineer for the Coors Brewing Co, I came back to the Family farm in Western Nebraska. Retired from that and now sell Farm and Ranch Real Estate. Somewhere in all this rambling there is a point to be made. The point being that it is gratifying that so many of you in the younger generations are here to carry on this wonderful hobby and preserve these fantastic cars. My hat is off to you!!

Detroit Al Apr 28th, 07, 1:13 PM I'm 58 and have Snap-on tools older than a lot of you. HA! I'm a stationary engineer for Ford Motor (means I sit around a lot). Just got back into muscle cars 3 years ago when I sold my Vette and bought a '65 Velle. I've never had so much fun laying on my back! Forgot how good cardboard can feel, just have to take more pain meds now. I grew up in Detroit in the 60's and street raced on Woodward and Telegraph, with all the "true" muscle cars. What good memories from those days. Maybe you all have heard about our "little" cruise on Woodward, in August? we have 40,000 muscle cars and 1 and 1/2 MILLION people show up. Quite a site for us old racers. Go look up our cruise, several sites for it on line. Good luck to all of you.
mitchedo Apr 28th, 07, 1:42 PM I'm 47, married 17 years this summer, one wife, two boys, ages 11 and 9. The morning I purchased my Chevelle on Ebay, my wife came down and handed me a greeting card. I got "What's this?" out of my mouth before I remembered it was our 15th wedding anniversary. She was thrilled, to say the least. She tolerates the Chevelle. Luckily, she took to calling my computer "the other woman" some years back, so she doesn't rag on the Chevelle too much. ...but then I've only just begun to spend money on it.
I spent 12-ish years as a respiratory therapist, went back to school and completed a degree in computer science. I've been a medical terminology engineer (whatever that is) for the past year. I really miss those double-time shifts at the hospital! I've had to scale back my Chevelle plans now that I'm salaried. :-( Working 5 days a week really stinks.
