I am considering a 6 speed in my 70 but i am not sure of a few things, can anyone help me?My car has buckets and 4 spd. console, if i install a t56 out of a 93 or so Camaro, will my console and shifter hole have to be relocated? Will a t56 put up with a 450 horse plus big block? Is there a scatter sheild available for the t56? A better choice is probably a richmond unit? Is there anyone who has attemped this already?

Check out tech reference you might find a primer on the swap. Seems like the Richmond 5 is an easier deal.

I did this on my 70 Monte, used a 97 T56 from a firebird. The shifter will be moved back about 5 inches. The tranny mount on the crossmember will have to be dropped about 1.5". New driveshaft. Had to custom fabricate the hookup for the clutch mastercylinder. Also had to get a different tailhousing to drive the speedo cable.
I have not found a scattershield. I used a Centerforce clutch ~$500 and had to have them build a special flywheel since I used this with a 454 (external balanced and two piece rear main). The flywheel is for a smallblock and then when the engine was balanced, they had to drill more holes on the side opposite where the weight should be.
All in all, it is a involved swap but this thing works great. I have a 12 bolt with 4.10 gears, 80 mph at 2200 rpm.
I was able to buy the tranny and all necessary components for less that what I could buy the Richmond 6 speed for. The Richmond conversion is fairly straight forward. I think you have to massage the tranny tunnel some and the shifter does not come up in the center for your console like the T56 does.
