Is there any right/wrong way to install a flexplate on a 454? Besides the correct way so the torque converter bolts on right, should any side be up as to aid in balancing?

I assume there should be as the flywheel is part of the balancing process on a 454..and many books I've read have mentioned re-installing the flywheel in the exact position it came off..but what about on a brand new assembly?

Thanks.

ABSOLUTELY! Once upon a time long ago, the rear of the crank had a dowel installed to match a dowel hole in the flywheel. For some reason Chev quit installing the dowel but the holes are still in the crank and flywheel. Match up the odd hole in the flywheel with the odd hole in the rear of the crank.

Actually, one of the bolt holes on a Chevy crankshaft is offset, the flywheel will only go on one way, with or without the dowel. The counterweights go to the front, away from the torque converter.
