I want to check some of the wiring on my chevelle while it is inoperative and am not sure how to remove the dash, i removed the screws, but it still seemed like there was more to it. . . is there? it is tough to mathc wiring when you can't see anything so getting it out would be useful, thanks.

If you have a factory radio, it is probably bolted to a brace behind the dash. To pull it out all of the way, you will need to lower the steering column, and disconnect wiring harnesses and speedo cable. --- Carl

pprince64,

To add to Carl's message;

1) Disconnect your battery!
2) Remove the upper mast jacket clamp both and bend clamp away from steering column.
3) Unscrew retaining collar from the speedo head and remove the cable. If you have an SS, then disconnect your oil pressure gauge.
4) Remove all the 9 screws holding the dash face in. If you have a radio then remove the radio buttons or anything else that is holding the radio to the dash.
5) Disconnect all cluster indicator and illumination lamps, other instrument cluster harness assembly wiring and the two harness restaining clips from the back of the panel.

!! When reassembling, be sure to reconnect the grounding straps to that back of the dash... Otherwise your dash won't work.

Windshield wiper switch removal.
1) Remove the small set screw from the bottom of the wiper knob.
2) Remove the attaching nut and the switch is now free.

Headlight switch removal.
1) Pull the knob to the on position.
2) Reach under the instrument panel and depress the switch shaft retainer pin. It is located on flat section of the switch. Remove the knob.
3) Remove the retaining nut on the dash face.

Hope it Helps.

There is one nut on the far left side that is really hard to get to. I had to remove the instrument dash bezel to get to it.
I guess I'm assuming that your talking about the padded dash??
