What makes the thrust bearings go bad? I've heard a couple of different theories, so I figured I'd ask the experts http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif. I've heard lack of oil, "balooning" of the torque converter, the converter not being installed right in the first place and several others as well. TIA-Amanda

If you use a hammer on your harmonic balancer
to try to make it go over the crank that will
force the crank into the thrust bearing area.
I did that once and the crankshaft counterweights were actually hitting the main caps and the main crank saddles in the block. It was scrap iron. I bought an installer after that. I was really stupid.
