I'm replacing the steering column in my 70 chevelle, do I have to use a 68-72 chevelle column? What else will work?

I put a tilt column in my '69 Chevelle from an '80 Caprice. It's a bolt in except the dimmer is now operated with the turn signal lever. I had to remove the column shifter, grind off the casting and fill the hole because I have a floor shift. It looks factory. I'm sure lots of other years will also work.

I'm not sure why the link will not work, but do the search and you will find the info you need. Check this ink: www.chevelles.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/002295.html (http://www.chevelles.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/002295.html) .
Also do a search for steering column, this has been discussed before.
