72 with sweep style dash. Want to know how to replace indicator bulbs. My left turn signal indicator bulb is out. I think that is why my right turn signals flash at a normal rate and the left signals flash much slower.

It is easier than it looks. To gain access to the dash guts you will need to remove the top cover of the dash by unscrewing about 6 screws and then sliding it rearward to unlock the clips that hold the forward end of the cover. Most of the stuff will then be exposed. It is then a good thing to look at the dash by going outside the car and looking through the windshield to get a feeling for where everything is. Good Luck

Whoa! You don't have to remove the top of the dash. We're talking indicator lamps, not cluster lamps.

To get to the bank of lamps that have the turn signal arrows, hot, oil, gen, lights, you need to remove the the plastic lamp-bank cover below the speedometer.

I don't remember which ones, but if you look closely, 3 of the indicators are dummies,(little black plastic fillers)if you carefully pry those out, they will reveal a phillips screw behind each. Remove the screws and gently pull up and out on the light bank cover. When you are in there you will have EASY access to all the lamps.

Replace them ALL! Bulbs are cheap, but make sure you test them all before putting things back. I have a new lamp that was bad, and I would have been pretty mad if I would have sealed things up again. Hope this helps.

I had a problem similar to what you were suggesting but it wasn't the bulbs. It was the ground wire going to the rear lights. If they aren't ground properly then you can get crazy things happening like slow flash or dimmed turn signals.

Hope it helps.

One thing I might add, RJ. When you remove the light bank, you will discover that each light location is enclosed in its own little box. It can be difficult at times to get all this back together. I use a VERY SMALL amount of something like gasket sealer to glue the boxes in place and it is so MUCH easier to get the light bank with its boxes back into place.

I just pulled mine apart this weekend. As mentioned, there are 3 dummy covers. I read somewhere (I don't recall) and it worked - to remove the covers you can apply pressure to the right side and the left side will pop out. Be careful not to use a pointed object which will damage the cover. I learned the hard way.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know what the 3rd light in from the left should be? There's a piece of red translucent plastic on mine and it looks awful. Thanks... Tom

Thanks for the help guys! My computer was down, so I wasn't able to put up this reply that everything is all well now. I do have to post a new topic on my winshield wiper switch though. LH signals flash slightly faster now but not quite the same speed as the RH side. First I'm gonna change the flasher, then check the ground. Yeah, yeah, I know......the RH and LH side signals go thru the same flasher (about speed of signals)......but hey, ya never know!
