The front of my hood is raised by about a 1/4 inch, is there an adjustment I can make to lower it a little? When I close it down, it seems like the spring next to the latch is pushing it up. Can that spring be adjusted or can the hook/latch be adjusted to pull the front down a little more?

I don't know about a 68 but on 66-67's there are two adjusters on the radiator support that can adjust the height of the hood. They are a bolt with a rubber bushing on top with a locking nut.

My 69 has that bolt with a locking nut and rubber support ontop. Lower that bolt a little till the hood lines up.

You did not mention if you changed your hood, hinges or springs.

If changed, do you have the right hinges and or spring combo? IE: F-Glass hood with factory hinges & springs would pop up because the glass is lighter than steel. The springs would have to be replaced.

If not changed, the adjust bumper's as mentioned in previous replies can be adjusted. Also you can adjust the latching pin from the hood but be carefull to leave a MINIMUM of 1/4" space between to top of the pin bolt and the hood skin.

Did you change anything else? what was the events leading up to this "mal-adjustment"?

BTW: Great lookin' ride you got there, just checked out your pic's.

Thanks for the help guys. I just got the car and I'm not sure about the hoods history. I don't believe it's stock because it's an SS hood but the car isn't an SS. I think I'll try to shorten the spring on the front-center. I can't get to the nut to adjust it without removing the assembly and I'm not sure I want to go that far for a 1/4" misalignment. Thanks again for your help.

The latch spring is not intended for nor can it be used as a gap adjustment. Its sole purpose is to pop the hood up once the latch is pulled so that the hood pin clears the latch mechanism.

Pay attention to the previous replies. They are trying help you if you will let them. The two adjustments for the gap in question are the large center pin that goes down through the latch and the two rubber bumpers on either side of the radiator support. The large center pin is used to pull the hood down so that it is flush with the fenders. The two rubber bumpers are used to keep the hood from going down too far.

But go ahead and shorten the spring if you wish.
