I purchased a full functioning cowl hood for my
71 ss elcamino and is came with a black coating
which i thought was primer (wrong) I could not get any paint to stick to this stuff.. block sanded it and all, so.. I completely removed it and now have a bare metal hood and need to know if a lacquer base primer is OK?

I have been told to use poly-e etching primer but I am not using BC/CC, I am shooting Acrylic Enamel. ;)

I live in the houston ares and BC/CC is higher that Garaffe P^&$%&.... So Acrylic Enamel is THE ONE. :D

Lacquer would be the LAST option.
You can use modern day paint products under an A/E topcoat.
Why not look into a SS urethane product instead of A/E, cheaper then baseclear and higher quality then A/E? If you do go with A/E please do yourself a HUGE favor and use hardner!!!!!!!!

I prefer etch on bare metal were others like epoxy primer. Follow the product guidelines set forth by the manufactor and either product will work just fine. Then you can follow up with a modern 2K Urethane primer surfacer.
