I noticed a oil tube, as in those used on mechanical oil gauges, on my recently bought 67 SS. Is the original dash board oil gauge mechanical? Is there a steel sheath available to make this installation more secure?

You don't need any sheath as the tub is pretty thick. I've had the same one since '80.

The plastic ones are ok, but if you go to the dragstrip, they will not let you race with the plastic tube. Therefore, I always use the copper tubing. You can get it from Summit or Jeg's. I believe they both sell the copper Auto meter packaged one, as well as a braided one.

Scooter, that was my concern, the strip. So I assume the factory gauge is mechanical. Figured it would be, but this is my first 60's car so I'm learnin'!

Well, at my track, no check is made as to whether the oil gauge line is copper or plastic. It depends upon the track.
