Is it worth the price difference between the edp coated import panels,or should I bite the bullet and pay for the USA made panels?

I recommend the Dynacorp panels. i purchased the usa made and they didn't fit well at all so i sent them back, The dynacorp panels fit great also the i think the usa made panels are a little thinner

I'd go with Goodmark whenever possible. Many, if not all of their panels are made on original GM tooling dies.

I bought the GM restoration full quarters and the panels are marked dynacorp.

Right in the midst of installing Dynacorp 1/4's and outer wells.

Besides our own screw-ups, the panels themselves are reasonable qualfity. The gauge of the metal is slightly thinner, but after it's welded up and supported on all sides, you can't tell the difference.

I had almost no massaging to make things fit...

I've read postings of this topic several times over recent years and it seems to me that in spite of the vendor names on the box, many of these panels are stamped by the same factory.

Not all, but many...

Do you know if Dynacorn has the full 1/4's for a '69? I need a left side and Goodmark is still lagging as you know.

I talked to people at Goodmark, and they have gone to all tiawan made panels, but said they had no problem with fit,and I thought I had read those were the thinner guage metal. Are Dynacorn panels imported as well?

Ground Up does not make any sheetmetal. They are simply a distributor. They sell both Dynacorn and Goodmark sheetmetal. The 69 full rear quarters are being produced by Dynacorn and have been on the market for over 6 months. They have good form and fit as compared to NOS.

A large portion of both Dynacorn and Goodmark sheetmetal is made in Taiwan by a company called Golden Legion. It is my understanding this company is owned by DII/Dynacorn.

Logic would dictate that neither Dynacorn nor Goodmark does all their own stamping. The cost of tooling would be way too expensive for a relatively small market. Thus each company produces some of their own and buys the rest from the other. This is quite common in all manufacturing.
For all the oil filters out there. There are only three filter manufactures. The list goes on and on.

Trooper, thanks for the feedback. There seems to be somewhat of a price difference from company to company and this is what had me wondering. Its all about the markup i guess. Hey Trooper just to let you know theres a pretty good car show going on un East Peoria Illinois the 26 of March. Lokks of different cars are there with a nice swap meet.(now if i can find a winshield upper frame for the convert.)

Thanks for the heads up BHawk. Is that were you from?
I think a lot of the "Goodmarkup" is due to advertising as compared to Dynacorn. You almost never see a Dynacorn add yet Goodmark advertises in every car mag out there.
Are the upper frames the same for 70, 71, and 72 ?

Bought full 69 quarters from Ground Up and they are not Goodmark, the boxes say Dynacorn right on them. I don't think Ground Up carries genuine GM parts, where would they get them?

no the qtrs are not G.M. but they pay to be G.M. licensed meaning that the general says that they are good enough to be G.M. not made from G.M. most all body parts are coming from tiawan. cripe i work for a office furniture company and they just anounced that we are going to be getting parts made there because they can make it cheeper than we can inhouse america is going to tiawan

Well, if those quarters are made to be GM good enough, they have a LONG way to go! We just finished installing both quarters and it was a pain, they didn't have the right bends and took lots of "tweaking" to get them just right, we're still working on it.

I bought full quarters for my 70 from Gene's General Store out of Indiana. Goodmark didn't have any for a while because the original GM die was worn. They did some repairs and discovered that if they used sheet metal of the original thickness, they got back the original lines. Mine are supposed to have come from those repaired dies with thicker metal. Goodmark also told me in an email that these particular panels are stamped in Michigan. They look very nice in the box, but they arrived 3 days before my Pete hugged the tree at the end of my driveway, so it's going to be awhile before I know if they fit worth a darn. graemlins/sad.gif

I've seen a lot of NOS quarters that need a considerable tweeking to fit correctly.
