A friend gave me a big block today.Said he's had it in a shed for over 10 years and was told it's a 396 when it was given to him.It's a short block and the heads. Here are the numbers I found:

Shortblock-@ back of motor(3955270}and @deck on front of motor(T0828LE & 19R002478).

Heads-3931063

Block is a 2 bolt Main and pistons are domed(std bore).

What would this have come in and would it be a good perfomance motor? Thanks for any input!

395270=69 427 block
3931063=68-69 BB heads Oval,closed, 101 CC

T=Tonawanda engine plant
0828=Aug 28th engine assembly date
LE= 69 Impala 427/335hp LS-1

Partial vin:
1=Chevy
9=1969
R=Arlington Tx assembly plant
1002478=sequence number

I'm wondering if these Heads have performance potential like the 049's or 781's.

Good parts; A lot of people will consider the heads better than the 049s.
