Does anybody know the proper placement of the "Chevelle" emblem on the grill of the 70 SS? I know it goes on the drivers side but have seen them in the middle right and the bottom right.

It goes on the bottom left....right if you're standing in front of it looking at it.

Sorry I meant on what slot does it go in? 1st from top, 2nd from top, etc.

I had the same quetion a few months back and ended up using the 3rd slot from the bottom if I remember correctly. I actually looked at all of the featured chevelles here at TC and found that the locations varied from car to car. I dont now if my placement was "factory" or not, but it was close enough for me.

Like Scot said, I think it's third slot from bottom.

mine is on the 3rd slot also and it hangs off the edge alittle bit.

A Follow up-

How far over does it go from the left side of the grille? I mean how many of verticles is there to the E at the end of the chevelle?

Here is mine, this is exactly where it was when it left the factory, at least on mine, Flint, MI built car:

Most that I have seen are the same 'left-to-right' as the above picture, but are up one slot.(centered up and down) in bottom section.

Per factory assembly manual, sheet A6, this is supposed to be centered in the lower space, or as noted above, in the third space from the bottom. Two spaced above it and two below it. The last E in Chevelle is lined up just past the change in angle of the grill. Three verticle bars from the edge. The drawing is deceiving as it seems to show the emblem attached at the change in angle of the grill (second verticle bar), but a note specifically says to install the edge of the emblem at the third verticle bar. It looks much better at the third bar over as the emblem will hang over and look bad if installed at the second bar.
