Hi everyone.
I am in the process of restoring a '72 Chevelle that needs quite a bit of body work. This will not be a numbers- matching car, but will be a very nice driver. My question follows: is it considered acceptable to use fiberglass body panels on the front of the car(hood, inner and outer fenders, bumper) or would I be better off using all metal replacement pieces? Would fiberglass reduce the value of the car?Fiberglass pieces would sure lighten it. Thanks for any thoughts.

Use steel, in my humble opinion

IMHO, you can forget the term "numbers matching" and "factory original" and any others that you are using now to equlate the value to a true classic. It will have become a modified vehicle resembling a '72. I'm sure that I'll get jumped on for this but, you either stay with the original construction (except for a few patches etc.) or move over to a clone/restification, etc. etc. calss, the value of which is based greatly on the modifications not soley the classic value of the car. Again, just MHO.

I'm sure other have a different view but, as you can tell by my sig, I'm in that non-true classic arena with my 67. It never came with a 400 and was an automatic from the factory. The previous owner changed it over.

If you want a nice driver, stay with steel. The fiberglass panels are mainly for racers who are looking to reduce the weight of their cars. The fiberglass panels look good....from about 50 feet away.
