I was dreaming about what color I'll paint my Chevelle (it's a long way off), and I got to thinking...

I know that no paint can really duplicate the look of stainless steel, but I've seen cars painted with metallic silver that look very cool. The look I'm thinking of is actually kind of low-gloss silver that, at first glance, can look kind of like brushed stainless steel. Any thoughts? Is this achieved more in the painting technique than in paint selection?

P.S. Heck, maybe I should just find a Delorean!

Can't help you on the paint, but as another suggestion, how about taking the car to bare metal and then using a clear coat over that?

If you did a minor polishing on it before you painted, it could look pretty cool. OF course, you'd have to have a car in perfect condiotn to do this as you'd have no way to cover any dents, pits, etc.

I think you'd have a helluva time getting a clear coat to stick to bare metal.

I've tried the clearcoat deal on smaller parts, does'nt work! Clearcoat can't stop rust.

Find out the paint Darrell Waltrip used on the Parts America NASCAR. Of course that was more chrome
