I have been looking to locate a 70 or 72 SS car. Had a SS in HS. Back then who knew about numbers and clones and all that. Now, I'm trying to locate a true SS car. I've found a 70 that I am being told is a SS 396 car. Couple questions, there is no stamp on the engine (told replacement block), the dash is a wood grain (could this be a Monte Carlo SS dash), the hood doesn't have pins, bench seat, column shift.. but it's a TH400 with a 12 bolt rear. Thoughts...?
I'm inclined to believe it's a clone. I have the trim tag, but no build sheet.

yep, thats a monte dash. Since the original engine is gone, there is no way to verify by a vin on the block. The rear and tranny are correct, does it have disc brakes?

Yes, it has disc fronts.

No Chevelles ever had wood grain dashes from the factory.
