I'm about ready to prime my El Camino and am looking for tips on masking the jambs. They're already painted and I don't want to get primer in through the caps around the hood & doors. I know Super Chevy or Chevy Hiperf. had an article that addressed this recently but I can't locate it.

Go to your paint supplier and ask get a roller with masking paper and tape applied, it is about 8" wide and works great for jambs, I think I have one in my shop and will get you the name and Part #.

Bill, first I would like to tell you that it is much easier to do all the body work, prime and then paint the jambs. But that's water under the bridge, so at this point the thing you want to do is when you tape off the jamb, tape right up to the edge. I mean RIGHT up to the very edge. This way when you tape it off for outside painting you can sand that primer edge then bring the tape down an 1/8" or so and have no primer edge to worry about when you paint.

I will even tape down another 1/16" or so and come back on top of that with some blue fine line bringing it back to the 1/8" away. So when I paint the base, I can then remove the blue fine line leaving me the 1/16" of base color on the edge of the masking. When the clear is applied the edge of the base will be "buried" under clear and leave a much nicer tape edge.

There is product made for masking jambs it's like a long round bead of foam its installed in the jamb and the door is closed It'll stop the overspray and doesn't leave a line like tape would. As long as the outside paint is going to match the jambs I think It'll work for you
Check at your higher end paint supply store

Also, another option would be SLIME. It's a paintable, brushable solution that comes off later with water.
