I thought I would past on to the other areas of the country that we are having a gas price increase/shortage in the San Diego area. Last week the price was $1.17.9, today its $1.41.9. Next week ?????. Three of California's six refineries are shut down. Without making this a long thread, how about six other areas of the country provide the current gas price for traveling purposes. Please limit answers to six regions. Thanks.

It will go down eventually. The Arabs decided to cut back on production. They do this occasionally to make a little money and then open up the lines again. Did you know that one oil reserve in Saudi Arabia has more oil than the whole North American continent?

I forgot to mention in my first post that at $1.41.9 that was for 87 regular unleaded. It appears that NorCal is getting hit harder than SoCal. It looks like everything east of California is still okay. Thanks for everyones input.

GAS BOYCOTT: Let's show the gas companys we mean business:

NO ONE BUYS GAS ON APRIL 30th. E-mail all your friends this message. I live in CA and there killing us on prices. Every summer everyone raises prices. Now that there is a war going on, up go the prices, they raise the prices if the bathroom runs out of toilet paper. Don't buy gas on April 30th. We have the power, lets use it.

I just heard on the news CA gas prices will drop quickly within the next couple of weeks. I sure hope it's the truth though paid $1.62 a gallon for 92 today at a 76 station. I noticed as I was filling though even across the street at a Arco station(known for lower prices) was $1.59! In So. CA.

Patrick- What's so special about April 30th?

Steve, what's so special about April 30th is that everyone should not buy gas. If this works, history will look back on April 30th is the day Americans got tired of all the gas price BS. We all know we have the gas.

Not buying gas on April 30 is like a boycott. If a few million people, and with the power of the internet we can reach that many by April 30,doesn't buy any gas on April 30 then that will send the message that we are not going to stand and take up the wahoo all the time.Just because the oil companies get a little greedy shouldn't mean that we have to bend over and take it with a smile.Let the oil producers know we are not happy and we are going to do something about it.If that many people buy gas the day before and the day after then on the 30th they are going to lose a lot of money.Just think about it.

If everyone buys gas the day before or the day after, the oil companies aren't going to loose any money.

Regardless of the actual day, be it April 29, 30, or May 1, you are still spending the same amount.

TO: BYFIELD. Suppose you eat breakfast, lunch and dinner on April 29th, and don't eat anything at all on the 30th, and starting eating again on May 1st. Would that bother YOU?

Byfield
Apr 3rd, 99, 8:24 PM
I know what you're saying, but it's not the same thing. You're not asking people to not eat, you're asking them to not buy the food on the 30th. It's 2 different things.

The only way it would make a difference is if everyone also decided not to drive on that day. Since they're still driving, the gas still gets used, and still gets bought.

It doesn't matter what day it's bought, the gas will still be burned at the same rate.

If everyone decied not to buy gas AND not to drive, then it would be a boycott and it might be noticed. Simply asking them to not buy gas that day is only defering the purchase of gas that'll get used at the same rate, regardless of when it's paid for. Thus, the gasd companies still sell the same amount, just less on 1 day, and more on the day before and after.

Hey I got an idea, why don't we just tell our North American oil companies to stop giving us the shaft! They want to clear a profit margine and if OPEC won't allow them to then they turn on us because we have no where else to turn... Why don't we let texaco, sunoco, mobil and the rest of them to keep the gas, we'd rather walk than pay 1.50 for a gallon of 87... 87 is so usless that my Chevelle pings no matter how far back I set the timing and my moms sentra eats 50% more per mile through poor performance... it dosen't cost them more to "crack" 94 than 87 and most places pull
87->92 out of the same tank, just different grades of filtering.

Francis

PS-never buy gas right after the pump truck filled the station tanks... the varnish and impurities that are floating around make a dirty fuel tank look like childs play.

just returned to so.cal from a norcal turn and burn, 87 at chevron was 1.76 and 92 was 1.96 thats 30 cents a gallon more than so.cal so glad i live in the south cal. where the sun always shines... thats a great idea about not buying gas on april 30. but unfortunately some us have to drive for a living. it's the same ol bs every year prices go down in the winter and start going back up around easter.not much were going to be able to do about it except live with it dont hear many complaints about the price of engine parts .

Gas went up about 20 to 30 cents in Phoenix in the last couple weeks.

Re: the boycott. I see your frustration, but I have to agree with Byfield. It won't make any difference.

If you are really hurt by these high prices (which really aren't that high by historical standards) don't drive a gas guzzler.

We got a break here in the last year because the asian economies collapsed. They stopped buying petroleum. This created a glut on the oil market which drove prices down. As asia recovers the demand will go up and so will the price.

I do agree that this Kosovo/Opec thing is just price gouging. Don't worry tho. The Opec members always cheat eventually and produce more than their quota. The prices drift back down until Saudi Arabia gets pissed and calls another meeting.

If one complains about Fuel cost/mileage, one cannot afford the vehicle.
My DD is a '93 Pontiac Sunbird LE from 25-30 pm on Reg., or Mid-grade or Hi-test. Running FULL Synthetic in the crankcase helps tremendously.
Our '00 Saturn L is better with FULL Synthetic fluid as well.
Our '64 CHEVEL CAMINO at about 12-17 mpg, I guess, of course depending upon throttle angle.

Fuel in Greensboro, NC as of yesterday:
Diesel: $3.909, RegUnLd: $3.259, Hi-Test: $3.599
Station locations vary in price as usual.

Supposedly Diesel is to be $4.50 a gln by May and possibly $5.00 by November.
Fuel theft will rise with the prices.

What has been will be again.

I started buying cheaper beer. That helped offset the fuel costs some. $9.99 for a 30 pack of Shlitz, "The Beer that made Milwaukee famous." Paid the same for a 30 pack of Genny Cream. I'll drink crappy beer before I stop driving!!!!!
