Can you tell which engine is in a 1970 chevelle by the vin number. All the info i find tells me to look on the engine. But the numbers are missing

Only if it was a 6-cyl (3rd number is odd) or V8 (3rd number is even) but no size. There are no numbers or letter on the pad in front of the passenger side head? Should be a letter, 4 numbers, and 2 or 3 letters - something like T1025CTX if it's indeed a 70 Chevelle engine. If those letters/numbers are there, post em and someone will know. There are also casting numbers on the block. See Mortec.com (http://www.mortec.com) for specific casting numbers and locations of those numbers.

thanks, the vin shows it to be a v8. The block #'s are missing. I haven't looked by the oil filter, just by the head.

VIN stands for Vehicle Identification Number

Therefore, VIN Number is totally redundant.

Just like ATM machine.

VIN, and ATM do not need anything elese behind them.
