That's a great list. I always wondered about the whole LS5 and LS6 thing -- I knew it was based on the motor, but didn't realize that all motors had similar codes, it's just the really awesome ones whose codes become household names. I'm hanging on to this list.

Does anyone know if the L and the LS meant anything? Or just a code to classify?

Bruce They're just regular production option codes. GM grouped RPO codes - "L" happen to be for engines, "M" for transmissions, "G" for springs and axles, etc. I have a fairly complete list for 64-72 here (http://www.chevellestuff.com/generic/rpocodes.htm)

Adam: Check my ChevelleStuff site in the sig block. I have (all?) engine codes (that I could find in GM literature) for all 64-72 Chevelles - 6cyl and V8. Select a year and "Engine ID Codes" from the first Information drop down menu.

And then there were the following "Z" RPO's: Z28 - Special Engine Option, 302 290HP in 1967-69 Camaros, ZL1 - Another Special Engine Option for 69 1969 Camaros and two 1969 Corvettes.
