Hi, My son and I are trying to fit a 97 454 w/FI into my 67 Chevelle. The body is off so it couldn't be simpler, however the Moroso oil pan is hitting the center frame beam. I am using the BB frame mounts which sit lower than the SB frame mounts. I am still having problems but I am oh so close. I figured this would be a walk in the park since the SS's came with a BB. Has anyone done this conversion?

Im not sure if those are gen IV. big blocks. The stock 97 oil pan will obviously not work.
Is that Moroso pan for a Chevelle? Looks like your using the correct frame mounts, I seem to recall that the mounts on the frame are the same as small block.
Its the mounts on the engine that may be different but your using big block mounts so I think your OK there.
I would consider looking at the oil pan causing an issue.
Also make sure you have the factory computer control module for the fuel Injection when its up and running. And if it applys you will also need this for the DIS ignition system (No distributor).

You need a different pan. The Chevelle & Camaro frames need a pan that clears the cross member. G.M. makes one that is used for this application. Any Chevrolet dealer can set you up for about $150.00...

Frame mounts are different part numbers for 67 small block (3840755/756) and big block (3872815/516). In my GM parts book, the engine mounts are different as well...but...GM suggests that when the engine mounts are replaced with the stronger type, the frame mounts (from a big block) should be used as well.
Any event, I had the engine R&R'd a couple of months ago to replace a leaking oil pan on my 67 SS and replaced it with a Milodon "stock replacement" unit from Summit, part number MIL-30710 at a cost of $88.95 and it fits like a glove. The block is a 69 396 and I don't know if it's any different from 97 block you're using.

A 97 block is either a Gen 5 or 6 which uses the pan for the one piece rear seal. The G.M. part no. is 12495360. This pan is more shallow in front of the cross member and deeper behind the cross member. This gives the pan more clearance where it needs it.They also have a kit to match the Gen 5 & 6 blocks to early Chevelles. The kit includes the pan, oil pump pick-up, and dip stick tube.. The mark 4 pan won't work. Thats why I suggested the G.M. pan. I prefer G.M. parts but you can also get aftermarket pans to fit that block and the Chevelle frame...

I have personally just delt with the oil pan problem. I bought a "Stock replacement" oil pan for my 1967 396 SS Chevelle. It was the Milodon pan, After all the trouble when I went to set it down it was resting on the oil pan before I even came cose to lighning up the motor mounts. The stock pan has a few "Dimples" on it that make all the differance in the world to clear the cross member. I end up pulling the pan and buying a stock replacement pan from OPG for $159 its well worth it. I then called Tom at Milodon and told him of the problem and he told me that he has never heard of any problems with the " Stock Replacement" pan and had no problem refunding my money. I just think guys never report it and end up dinging the pan ( Impossible with it in the car) or modifying it in someway to make it fit. Hope that helps :D
