I know that the 71 SS wheels should be a cast grey, however,I am seeing more and more SS wheels with either a very dark grey, almost black. Is the dark color "permissable" in the restoration field, or is it best to keep with the original cast color

I think that the Eastwood Company has a kit that you can use for those wheels.

A lot of people are using the insert gray, which is the background color on 69 - 70 SS wheels. Technically, it's not correct for 71 - 72 wheels, but is much easier to apply than the original cast gray with its sand like texture.
