I was quoted 240.15 for Crinamex and 272.43 for PPG. Is the Crinanmex any good? It's only 30.00 bucks difference. Probably get PPG.

Also I was wondering how do they get the right height with the caulk?

I heard the winshields are also thinner?

Thanks

I've been quoted 200 and 230 for a windshield, I hate it when the staging lanes are directly behind the waterbox :(

I bought mine locally from a glass wholesaler for $116. It's PPG and looks fine. Glass place wanted $250 installed.

Not sure what you're asking about right height? For height above the cowl, there are two metal brackets (adjustable) on the cowl that the bottom of the front windshield sits on. Rubber spacers are used on the back windshield. If by height with caulk you mean the spacing from the pinch weld to the glass, it depends on how big a bead of sealant you use. If you use butyl tape, you don't have to worry about it. I used butyl for mine and it worked fine.

Try a search for install instructions. I believe it was MARTINSR that posted the article last year on installing a windshield using butyl tape.

Good Luck.

Thanks guys, I'll do a search maybe I'll try it myself for 150 bones maybe not, just want to make sure if I farm it out the guy gets the glass to pinch weld height correct. The trim and glass is already out so he has nothing to go by.

I just bought one for my 65 and not sure what brand it is but it said made in china on the label. It cost 135.00 not installed and 10.00 for the 5/16 butyl tape. I asked him about the newer glass being thinner and needing 3/8 tape, he reply was he's been doing it for 10 years now and hasnt seen a need for the thicker tape. If I was to use the thicker tape I would have never got the mouldings on. But remember different manufacturers can vary so take that in account. For a window made in china its very nice, with a nice deep colbalt blue tint on the top. just measure the thickness before you buy the tape.

LOF/PPG was the OEM manufacturers for GM glass. They have been bought by Pilkington but still sell the same glass. It just has a Pilkington stamp on it. Go for the OEM stuff. Any other brand will be thinner and possibly wavy. I had all new LOF glass put in my 70 and it looks great.

You can get all of the glass, even the quarter windows. Go to http://www.glasssearch.com. If you do not see it listed, call them. They have it.

I removed and reinstalled by windshield and back glass recently on my 65. Much easier than I thought. I used the butyl tape, 5\16. It puts the glass out to the correct height. I would be very wary of letting anyone use the tube caulk instead of tape. When they press the glass to the caulk it squeezes out all over, and you'll never get all the excess off. I know, someone installed the back glass on my 69 using tube caulk, and the squeeze out is prominent but I can't get at it with any tool to scrape it off. Read the posts on this site. Martinsr has one that I followed. There is also a very good one in the archives. A complete article on remove and install windshield. Search body shop on this site for more hits.

I know about that first hand. The bonehad that installed the windshield and backlight in my 69 screwed it all up. I made him take it out and redo it because it was such a horrible job. He ended up breaking the windshield taking it back out. I made him pay for it and them some.
