I installed one in my '65 wagon. I think all of the accessories will bolt up to the new engine without any problems. I used a serpentine belt setup from GMPP because I wanted to get rid of all of those belts and have a cleaner look. The engine runs great with plenty of power and torque. There is a picture of the engine in my sig below.

I had one in my 69 El Camino. The vortec heads have all the same mounting points as most all chevy small blocks. I'm sure your accesories will work with that motor.

Mine worked great for me. I ran it stock for a while and it had tons of torque. very nice engine and everything is brand new. I would definetly reccomend one to anyone.

GMPerformance parts (Goodwrench.com)sells a couple of serpentine belt kits. One has an a/c setup with new compressor, the other has just the alternator and power steering pump. They all include the reverse flow water pump. They are a little pricey but have all the parts, fasteners and instructions. You could go the salvage yard route and pull one out of a late 80's Camaro or Firebird. Getting the best price on a crate engine is tough because of the shipping costs. My son works for a Chevy dealer, so I got a good price on mine. Paceperformance.com has the deluxe for 3449.00, but I don't know what the shipping would be. Check it out.

storm - I've been pricing engines and the GM Serpentine belt system. As someone mentioned, there's probably not much difference in price, but you need to consider shipping costs and possibly sales tax if you buy in Jersey.

Shipping quotes to Northern Virginia were $165 from Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center (SDPC) (http://www.sdpc2000.com/) and $116 from Pace Performance Parts (http://www.paceparts.com/) for the 350 Target engine that I'm ordering. Although the engine is $10 more at Pace, I save $40 after shipping.

SDPC wants $699 for the serpentine belt system with AC (12497698), Pace wants $753. UPS shipping is the same so I'm buying from SDPC (along with most of the other parts I need.) The individual parts that are in the kit would cost you $1216. The AC Compressor and Power Steering Pump alone are close to $600.

The $3449 that JimN posted for Pace is the cheapest I've seen also. Call them for a shipping quote - they were very helpful when I called.

BTW, JimN's engine is an inspiration and is what convinced me to go with the Serpentine Belt. Where'd you get that Air Filter, Jim?

Get your best price and then go to your local chevy dealer and they will prolly match the price and wont be any shipping. You will have to pay tax, but, no shipping and if their is a problem they will have to do the warranty work and you wont have to send it back. I ordered my H.O 350 like this and the engine runs great. Nice engine for the money.
Summit has the H.O 350 deluxe for 3359.95
JEGS " " " 3349.99
Pace Performance " " " 3449.97
SDPC " " " 3485.30
G.M Parts Direct " " " 3213.00

Jim, your engine looks fantastic and is an inspiration. I was thinking about the Serp system for my 86MCSS and your pic might have been the last impetus I needed. graemlins/beers.gif

GM Parts Direct will have the cheapest prices, but they'll hurt you on shipping. If you intend to buy anything from them, add the parts to your cart and select Checkout to see their shipping prices. For an engine, it's $295.

I was going to buy the serp belt system from them for $640, but they wanted $128 for shipping. Scoggins-Dickey is only charging me $22 shipping for the serp kit, flexplate, damper, and a handfull of other parts.

Good suggestion from fatlip. You'll pay $200 sales tax (6% in NJ?) but it may be worth the difference to have a local dealer responsible for honoring the warranty.

68 Elky: BTW, JimN's engine is an inspiration and is what convinced me to go with the Serpentine Belt. Where'd you get that Air Filter, Jim?Thanks for the compliment. I bought the air Cleaner housing from Ground up. It's a Camaro part that I modified by adding the extra air inlet holes. The only problem with the serpentine belt in an early Chevelle is fan clearance. I eliminated the radiator spacer and lowered the stock radiator. I might have fit a stock fan to the water pump, but it would have been tight, so I opted for the electric fans. They do a great job. My crate engine is coupled to a 700R4 automatic that has hydraulically controlled lockup and overdrive. The trans will not shift into overdrive until the car has reached a speed of 45 mph, which is nice for city driving and driving in hilly areas with a 4000 lb. car. The gearing and torque of the engine make for nice cruising and good highway mileage. My only peeve is that the shift to overdrive occurs too early when merging into high speed traffic, so I have to lock it out.

I'm really not sure if they would do the warranty work, prolly would. I just didn't want that hassle and I knew if it was bought from them it would be a sale for that dealership and I would get good customer service. Another thing I liked was if the create was damaged looking I wouldn't have a hassle then ither, because I haven't took delivery. They will load it in a truck also, but you will have to get it off at home. That wasn't a bid deal though, took 3 people.

68elky, I noticed you are in Fairfax, VA. I am in Reston and when I bought my 350/330 crate engine, Lustine Motors in MD, matched the best price I could get on the web and delivered it for free. This was about 3 years ago.

Good deal, Don, and thanks for the tip. I just called the local Chevy dealer and he told me they could order an engine but wouldn't even talk about price matching. Said a Target motor's about $2100. I'll probably just order from Pace and pick it up at the terminal. Besides, paying shipping is better for the economy than paying sales tax.

Find out if any local Chevy Dealers go to the NHRA drags there and if they set up the G.M booth, that dealer should match prices. Its a sale for them and they don't have to do anything but load it in a truck.

I have a 10 bolt, 373 posi, B&M TH350 Street and Strip Trans with B&M 2400 Stall. I also used the G.M mini starter for a 502 engine, works great with headers.

storm - another source to check is Greenwood Chevy (http://www.greenwoodchevy.com/engine13.htm) in Ohio. They list the 350/330 Deluxe for $3349, same as Jegs (the cheapest on fatlip's list). Shipping may be cheaper. As I mentioned earlier, our local Chevy dealer wouldn't deal, but Don C. got a price match from a dealer in MD. (And on second thought, I think I'll give them a call tomorrow.) Let us know what you decide.

Just came across a cheaper one at GM Parts Depot (http://www.gmpartsdepot.com/store/category.asp?SID=8&SID=8&Category_ID=7), $3225. No mention of shipping costs. I wonder if they're affiliated with GM Parts Direct?

it seems you get a good price out west but shipping cost brings it back up to local cost. i'll get lucky somehow.
