bryce,

Sorry I don't have the measurements. I am working this evening. Why not spend a little money and pic up an aftermarket repop SS hood? It might be and easier route and enable you to keep your stock hood in good shape. Just a thought.....also looks like you have done some nice work.

Good Luck!

Bryce, This would be a big pain. The factory hood louvers fit into a stepped cutout and the underside frame on the SS hood is different from the malibu as well. It would likely be cheaper/easier in the long run to pick up a used SS hood or a repro.

Thanks Tom for the input,I figured that because they were non funtional that i could just bolt them on,I'v never really got a good close look at one.your car is looking good, check out Dwaine's his is great..well i'm half way there I'v got the lovers ,now i just need a hood.

is this even possible?I did this once (20-something years ago), and it turned out okay...

They were factory scoops though, and I had to grind a little ridge off the entire perimeter inside of the scoop (I think the ridge locates the weatherstrip seal on the bottom of the scoop)...

After that, I also had to cut some of the sheet metal out of the hood for clearance, about a 18"X 2" rectangular hole (actually one hole for each scoop)...

It actually was an easy job.

When it was all done, it looked factory. Thank goodness those original 66 hoods came two ways, one with the scoops sitting down inside the lip (flush with the hood) and the other with them "sitting on top" of the hood (which was how my finished creation looked...

Tony, I did think of the early style 66 hoods that sat on top of the hood instead in setting into a "pocket" when I posted my reply. I thought they had an issue when they mounted it that way (structural strength of the hood?). Bryce, if you decide to do it this way, email me and I'll give you the dimensions where they need to be mounted. I have my 66SS hood off the car now.

Bryce I gotta say I love that yellow. Hate the idea of you cuttin into it. I can understand wanting the SS hood tho. I does add a bit of character to the car.

I take it you already have the inserts? The 2 pieces together weigh a ton. I can see why repops cost as much as they do.

You know I was trying to decide between the original Marina Blue or a sweet flat black but I've always loved yellow and now I know it does look great on a 66. I just may have to steal you're color. smile.gif

Bryce, Sorry I haven't gotten back to you with the measurements. I tore some cartilage in my knee and I am hobbling around on crutches (surgery scheduled for Friday). I'll see if it's possible for me to get the measurements before the surgery. If I can't get them by Friday, it's going to be a while. Sorry.

Thanks Everude I ordered them about 8 weeks ago, still havn't got them though, its a real pain in the ass to get parts here there's no dealers here in Ottawa everything has to be ordered from Toronto area, which is about 6 hrs away, not a trip I want to do to often...Isn't it hard to pick a colour out, mine was going to be either yellow or orange. The boss"my wife" said she like yellow better so I went with that. The colour if you want to know is Dupont Vivid canary yellow B/C #b9310k ,hope that helps. If you need more #s let me know

Bryce, I sent you a private message regarding the dimensions.

66BBCONV, From my understanding, the very early 66's had the scoops mounted on the top of the hood, but they changed it due to some issues.
