ETD66SS Oct 26th, 03, 11:05 AM How high is to high of a price to pay for these?

I've been looking for 2 years for a NOS set, bought the repo's a few years back, they are total crap.
Bomber '67 Oct 26th, 03, 11:36 AM I have no clue how large your wallet is or how high the bidding will go.
As an alternative you could either have your old mouldings, or purchase another used pair, and have them straightened, polished, refinished.
There has to be someone capable of restoring old trim near you. If not there are several places near me in the L.A. area that I know could do the work.

ETD66SS Oct 26th, 03, 12:17 PM I already have an old set, I'm reconditioning all my other trim.
However, I have a NOS set of rocker moldings, it would be nice to have a NOS set of these to go with them, a lot less work for me.
I've been stripping the old anodize off of the other trim, straightening & polishing the aluminum, looks good but it won't last, unless I buff every few weeks...
I've been kicking around the idea of getting this stuff chromed...
I have a pretty insane max bid on these already, but just wondering if it will hold up, I can remember a set of these going for over $360.00 last time I saw them...
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Oct 26th, 03, 12:26 PM How high is too much... awh, the eternal question of value and worth smile.gif
They will go for more than they are bid now, that's a given..and I know guys who will bid on these at the last moment who have deep pockets...so..it's hard to say. Nobody can reproduce these like they should be, so that makes em valuable, esp. with the black detail paint.
Go for broke!! :D
ETD66SS Oct 26th, 03, 5:38 PM Thanks for the advice Mike.
I'm trying to get you pictures of the VIN on my original block, but I just cant get the pictures to come out right.
I have a decent digital camera, I may need to take the block off the shelve and outside to get you a good pic Mike.
Lighting is real ceitical to get the numbers to show up.
I'm on it! Don't think that I have forgotten about it!
JimN Oct 26th, 03, 9:09 PM Just to let you know, I purchased some NOS body side moldings from the same seller a few months ago and the transaction went fine. I paid a lot for the rear quarter moldings, but no one bid on the rest of the set, so I got them for opening bid in two separate auctions. The parts were wrapped well and were flawless when they arrived.
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Oct 26th, 03, 9:15 PM Yes, as was stated above by Jim...if it is any concilation...I too have purchased from the seller and it is always as described and painless...well, except for the wallet...that hurts sometimes :D

I can suggest to you that you use some yellow chalk over the stamp and that may help with the pic. e-mail me privately for more help if needed.
Thanks and good luck!

Chris R Oct 26th, 03, 9:48 PM When I bought my 66SS it had only one rocker panel with it (off the car). I bought a set of repros and put it next to the GM one I have.
There is a difference but I cant complain about the repro, seems to be close in size and shape when compairing to the original.
Mine isnt a numbers car. So im not that picky about having all GM parts, as long as they fit (these do). I have had decent luck with repro mouldings so far.
But I certainly wont deny the fact that GM parts are clearly better quality than the repros. But if the part is a discontinued peice, I usually cant afford it anyways so I depend on the repros.

Ouch!
I lost by $5.00.
Someone out bid me in the last 30 seconds, I'm glad they did, I really did not want to pay that much.
I can get most of my trim chromed for $400.
I guess I'll chome my originals, along with the rest of the aluminum...

You mean Anodized don't you? Chrome is what is on your bumpers ;)
Sorry I had to outbid you on them...I couldn't resist tongue.gif
just kiddin :D
ETD66SS Oct 29th, 03, 10:02 PM No, I'm thinking about getting all my aluminum trim tripple plated.
I can get the trim copper plated, then I can sand out all the imperfections, then take it back for tripple plating, copper-nickel-chrome.
Silver anodizing scrathes to easily for my taste.
