: Opinions on GMPP 350 HO engine?
Moloko Oct 23rd, 03, 5:28 PM I'm thinking of buying a 350HO longblock from GMPP this winter while I have the nose of my 'velle apart. Anyone have this engine and like it? I'd be putting an air gap intake on it, street avenger carb, dynomax cerami-coat headers, and probably and MSD HEI distributer. Im not looking for neck snapping power, but my current 350 is on its way out, and it only has about 150hp anyway.
SSuper Dave Oct 23rd, 03, 5:40 PM If you mean the 350/330hp Vortec crate motor, I can't say enough good about it. I have one in my '70 Elky and its quite strong. I'm running stock manifolds and a Performer intake with a 600 Holley and HEI. No strip times yet, but with a TH350 and 3.36 gears, I'm looking for mid-hi 13's. Definitly money well spent.
JimN Oct 23rd, 03, 9:12 PM I have the 350 Deluxe crate in my Malibu wagon which produces 330hp and comes as a complete package with a high lift cam, aluminum intake, HEI distributor, plugs and ignition wires, a Holley carb that is matched to the cam, a crank damper and flexplate. I have about 4k miles on it and I like the power and torque. Well worth the money imho.
fatlip Oct 23rd, 03, 9:39 PM I have this engine also. I bought the long block and used a Edelbrock Porformer RPM intake, Speed Demon 650 carb, Dynomax c-coated headers, Summit HEI, and a B&M 2200 Stall through a B&M th350 and then 373 gears. The 71 Chevelle pulls real hard in all gears and just runs great. I'm glad I bought this engine, very durable with low costs.
ACES1 Oct 23rd, 03, 10:10 PM Of all the GM crate engines, the 330hp 350HO gives the best bang for the buck... hands down! Very durable and a great power band. My '71 Malibu convert has a combo much like Rick's, except that I have a Holley 3310 (750cfm), and 3.08 gears. Still, a very strong performer with decent (15-19mpg) fuel economy.

Moloko Oct 23rd, 03, 10:56 PM Any guesses to what it might run in my car? My car weighs about 3300lbs without me, 3.42 gears, TH350 trans w/2400 stall converter. Stock everything else, power nothing.
mr 4 speed Oct 24th, 03, 9:07 AM IMHO,observations and experience w/friends running similar combos, you'll more than likely be in the high 13's/low 14's with that set up,and you will spend time to tune it,and to figure out the best launch to achieve the all important 60 ft. before you get those timeslips. The dragstrip can be a humbling experience, but its also the ultimate tool to get your car to run its best.
Rumblin70SS Oct 24th, 03, 10:22 AM Moloko,
You're not too far away from me. If you are interested, I have a friend who just pulled a ZZ3 crate motor out of his 1969 Camaro show car. Motor has had some slight port work, forged pistons added, Crower roller cam and only has about 2000 miles on it since new. Motor was ran a couple times and went 12.65 in the Camaro. I can personally vouch for the quality of the car and motor and you will not be dissapointed. He moved to a 555 Scott Shafiroff BBC. This again is a show car and not a race car. Comes complete with headers, carb, fan, clutch if need be, distrubutor etc. I think he wants $3500.00 for the whole deal, but that's negotiable as the car is in the shop having all kinds of work done and he could use the cash and space. I'd buy it if I was a SBC man. As I said you will not be disapointed!!
Please email me if you'd like more info!!
