: Outer wheelwell replacement
rick70SS Jun 5th, 02, 6:20 PM New to the sport, but learning the hard way. I have a Can. 70SS that is documented. This car has had resto started(new quarters)prior to me purchase. I just removed the body and found a bent, heated, and welded frame. I have a 72 malibu. Will these frames interchange?, Also can you replace the outer rear wheelwell without damaging the quarters? (do I have to remove the quarter?)
Forget the frame question, I just found the answer. Thanks

normie Jun 5th, 02, 10:02 PM Rick, you can't replace the entire wheelhousing without damaging the quarter, However if you are real careful you can patch the wheelhousings.. Take a look at my signature pic (x-ray view) and you'll see all the spotwelds that have to be removed to get it out, and that is just along top! The quarter has about the same amount in it connecting to the wheelhouse!

rick70SS Jun 5th, 02, 11:34 PM Thanks for the info, looks like areal tough job. I think I better remove the quarter to repair. Is it possible to cut out the whole quarter, and then reuse it? <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by normie:

GVMLS6 Jun 6th, 02, 12:30 AM Rick, it all depends on how the quarter was welded. It looks like you may need some professional help to do this correctly. If you are interested, e-mail me for more info. I am located in the Chicago area.

normie Jun 6th, 02, 12:14 PM Rick, it is something you can do yourself.. But you need to provide more info, or give gordon a call. We need to know how the quarter is put on, if it is completely welded, or just tacked on? How much of the wheelhousings are bad and need replaced. Pictures would help us help you! As for removing and reuseing the 1/4's yeah it can be done! but it's not going too be easy!!!
