I am going to buy a new paint gun, but having a hard time deciding wich one to buy,
I've narrowed it down to 2 guns, the sharpe cobalt and the devilbiss finishline both hvlp, and both resonable for no more than I paint, my compressor is rated at 11.4 cfm @ 40psi will this work for either gun? any comments on these would be great.

With your compressor I would go with a Sharpe Platinum, it only needs 7.5 cfm. You can learn alot about it on the Dr Gun site at Sharpe or at www.autobodystore.com (http://www.autobodystore.com)

Sharpe also sells refurbished Platinums any configuration you want for about $180 with 90 day warrenty, they look and spray like new. E-mail them and they will e-mail you a price list.

I ordered a Platnum yesterday,175.00 pluss 8.00 shipping and handling.
I also ordered a 1.7 tip and needle for primers and the "Green Zone" regulator those were about 100.00.
Talk to Lisa tell what type/brand paint you are using and she will hook ya up.
She said these are almost new guns some only had water through them, some nothing and others very little use.
Lisa said she would 2nd. day mine to Fla. at NO extra charge!!
Couldnt pass this one up 550. retail for about 300. to the door!!

I don't know of a need for a 1.7 tip. I have a 1.3 and 1.5 and find that I do everything with the 1.3. Clear lays like glass with it.

I have a sharpe cobalt with a 1.5 tip. Sprays everything very nice. Your compressor should be fine with either gun you mentioned. I have a true 4hp compressor that puts out 9.2 CFM @ 40 with 120 gallons of storage. I have no problems at all spraying with the cobalt! Tank storage your key to making a higher CFM gun work with a marginal compressor, but I don't think you would have much problem even with just a 30 gallon tank. Mike

Is there a website on that sharpe gun? Very interested in that reconditioned platinum HVLP.

What about an HVLP setup with a turbine/compressor and gun, etc... I was looking at what places like TIP offer (those are the guys that always have lots of blasting cabinets, etc).

I realize these are lower end units, but I will probably only spray a few cars with it... My compressor doesn't have a water trap/seperator now, so I would need that anyway. Its an older (10-12 years) Sears 5 HP, single stage, 30 gallon tank...

I ordered the 1.7 tip due to the fact the factory rep.sugested I do so.
I told her my intentions for the gun and I believe she got her information from the Platnum LV tech. sheet.
The one that list all the paint manufactures and the various types of paints they make. It also list what needle and cap to use with each.
I heard these manufactures have spent millions researching and developing these products and how to apply them.
So who am I to second guess them as to what to use for the product I want to alpply?
If it doesnt work I will have a 70.00 tooth pick? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
