No disrespect to those other places but you live in one of the most desirable areas in the world. Why do you need to get out of California? Hard to understand unless its the price you have to pay to live there.

Kansas is the place to be Toto

We get a little snow but not too much (like New York gets), a little rain but not too much , a lot of nice sun shiney days and no earthquakes or typhoones.

We do get lots of tornado watches and warnings but only a real tornado once in a great while.
(Iv'e only seen one in 65 years and it was several miles away)

People around here killing each other every day, mostly drug related but I guess that's everywhere.

Anyone who says Cal is a great place to live hasn't been here too long. I have seen it go from a great place to a pile of s--t. From the idiots in Sac. to the one giant urban sprawl. As soon as I can I am joining the masses and leaving.

Thanks Mike Feudo, you know what im talking about. I am 4th genaration Napa Valley, my children 5th, I have lived in the same house for 38 years, was parents, bought out siblings, when parents passed away.
I have rentals on both sides of me now with a$$hole neighbors, my neighborhood has become housing for migrant farm workers, people complain about the valley being to expensive to live in and want everything givein to them for free, food housing, medical, ect.
And then theres the state goverment what a joke, and they want us poor working stiffs to pay 300% more for our car registration and raise the tax on cigaretts and alcohol to cover bad political judgement and more freebees for the folks who don't want to work.
F Dat' Time to move away, looking for a little quiet space to spend my golden years.

If you're really serious about leaving California, don't make any hasty decisions. It could get very expensive if you make a mistake. Spend the next few years visiting different areas on your vacation (assuming you get vacations) Stay a few days in several different places and mingle with the locals as much as possible. Believe it or not, people love to talk about where they live so you will hear the good and the bad. When you narrow it down to two or three places, check employment and the winter weather before deciding. We pretty much did that and still wound up in California. Oh well.

I hear ya gene... I love the beach, and the weather but the people around here all want a free ride, something for nothing. Plus we have all of the government issues and the kooks left and right, I can't work on my car without a neighbor looking crosseyed at me, and the school system is a mess. Oh well, I won't be getting out soon.
Best of Luck, Let us know where you settle,
Brandon

We like it here. There's more "classic cars" per capita that anywhere else I've been. Seems like every "old" guy drives one around town. Also it's cheaper to live here than most anywhere else in California.

There's the University of California, Chico about 15 miles from Paradise, and Butte County Community College about 5 miles out of town. You could check the classified ads in the local papers.

Have either of you guys spent any time in Rio Vista? I kind of like that town too. Traffic on Highway 12 is about their only problem.

That's funny, you usually don't start seeing the California bashing threads until there's snow on the ground back east and were basking in 80* temps watching the Rose Bowl. graemlins/waving.gif

I love it here. Bigger house would be nice though.

Paradise is cool. I have an Ex-girlfriend that used to live in Chico and had relatives in Paradise that we would visit. For what time i have spent there i liked it a lot. For me i want to stay in california, but i want to get out of the bay area. I grew up in patterson out in the valley, and am much more use to a little more small town, but on the other hand i want something with all the stores, etc.. I would want. So i am thinking of moving to Turlock or something similar. I went to high school in turlock and really liked it. Small enough but has everything i need, and not the crazy busy syndrome the bay area has. BTW i am 21 and in college, so moving isnt hard, besides, the valley is cheaper for rent/housing anyway.

Not sure how much "Chevelle Tech" is in this thread but I'm game......

My wife and I are going to Napa Valley area as well as San Fran & Monterey in just a few days. Any locals or anyone else familar with this area that might care to offer some "can't miss" stops please send me a private email....would be appreciated.

P.S. State of Iowa recently reported that the state that supplied the most "move ins" to Iowa in the last 12 months was California.

I lived in Pacifica from 94 - 2001. If we didn't have babies that we needed a to get closer to the grandparents we would have never left. We miss it dearly.

Kansas City has cheap housing and lots of classic cars....but not a whole lot else to write home about. I'd stay close to the coast if I was you.

Good luck

California had way too many people two years ago.
Enough have left the state that the traffic is not as bad, The houseing prices have topped out, Rent is comming down. I'm going to hang on a little longer and see. I think there will be some changes for the good in the next couple years.

You need to move up here Gene! Best fishing in the world! Salmon, halibut, cod, crabbing at your doorstep. Very mild winters and the summer temperatures are just right. And where do you find 6+ acres of water front for under 300 thousand in California? http://www.mls.ca/mls/property.asp?gt=s&gc=62&L=1&T=RR&rType=HO&RBEM=0&RBEX=50&RBAM=0&RBAX=50&RPM=0&RPX=99999999&RJOIN=AND&PV=6&sort=D&D=0&oid2=0&oid3=0&oid4=0&oid5=0&oid6=0&oid7=0 &oid8=0&oid9=0&oid10=0&coid=0&propCount=29&pageType=S&pid=800742&page=1 (http://www.mls.ca/mls/property.asp?gt=s&gc=62&L=1&T=RR&rType=HO&RBEM=0&RBEX=50&RBAM=0&RBAX=50&RPM=0&RPX=99999999&RJOIN=AND&PV=6&sort=D&D=0&oid2=0&oid3=0&oid4=0&oid5=0&oid6=0&oid7=0&oid8=0&oid9=0&oid10=0&coid=0&propCount=29&pageType=S&pid=800742&page=1)
And when you buy it, I will gladly help fill that 5000 square foot shop for you! :D

Wow K_Janisch just read your post. Not sure what you mean there isn't much else to do in K.C.?? How about professional baseball with the Royals, professional soccer with the Wizards, professional football with the Chiefs, a 1300 mile shore line lake within 2 hours of the city, Lake of the Ozarks, cheap housing ( you did say that), pretty low unemployment rate and not too many illegal aliens sucking up our benefits? As you can tell, I think it's a great place to live..........

I've been in Prescott Az. now for two years. lived in SoCal since 71, Phoenix since 94 and i'll tell you, take a long week end and stay here in Pres-kett and you won't want no place else. Downtown on any week-end is great for cars crusin the square (old timey court house)and when you get tired of that do an about face and enter one of the many bistros on Whiskey Row. Winters coming but if you like snow, its gone by nine or ten a.m. Nice little lake right on the edge of town.

I hear tell that Austin, Texas is a very nice place to live, one of the best in the USA. And Vegas is still, I believe, the fastest growing city in the U.S., so I smell oportunity.
