Ok saw the previews for the distruction and changing of a 1970 El Camino on Monster Garage into some stupid circle 8 race car. The show will be on the Discovery channel on Monday evening the 14th. What a bunch of fools! All those people that had something to do with that should all be shot!

hey, i like monster garage, and yes, they do kill some awesome cars. but they are theirs, whatcha gonna do. i remember when they turned that vette into some mud racer. did they ruin it, probably, but it was a '76, nothing really special, and i still enjoyed watching it.
better than most of the things on Fox.
now if they were to suddently come up with a Z16 Chevelle and try to turn it into a garbage truck, ya, i'd get a big mad.
who knows, someone might have bought that 4x4 vette and might be driving it around loving it, you gonna hate him for it?

the only time i didnt like something from the show was when they made that hot dog cart dragster. they destroyed a famous drag car, and they had WAY too many "freebies". They have a $3000 limit. that bought them the tranny, and a few parts. "Free" 502 crate engine from Jegs, "Free" dragster etc...ya...
cant we all agree the Mac Delivery truck with the balista and trebuchet was pretty cool?

What ever happened with that cop car, the one they put a donut fryer in the trunk with a convayer belt to bring the donuts to the driver. Did that even work? I would have thought the fryer grease would slosh out?

Really it still is a shame that even american people destroy these rare american cars. I personally hate when they do that and wish I could put a stop to it. I saw in the preview that the 70 el camino is even a SS model. What a bunch of stupid losers to tear such a nice el camino into nothing!

well, i think crushing any old car is horrible. that definetly is detroying it. but all these guys are doing is modyfying their cars. would you saw someone who turns a '69 Camaro SS into a Pro Street car is destroying it? is putting a custom dash in your car destroying it? its not original, so i must be destroying it?
You said they are turning this El Camino into a race car, has this NEVER been done before? I've seen quite a few El Camino drag cars.
so, as long as they are not CRUSHING it, i think its ok. thats just my opinion. the world would be boring if people didnt do different things. who knows, could just be an SS clone.

and your probably right about that vette....

What about all of the Chargers that met their demise on "The Dukes of Hazard", or the '57 Nomad that was crushed on "Tool Time", and I suppose that no Trans Am's were harmed in any way on "Smokey and the Bandit"?

All in the name of "entertainment".

dammit, i have fond memories of riding the short bus to school, and it really made me all sick inside when they made that "very, very special" bus into a pontoon.

come on, guys, get over it.

that show- and all those custom bike shows on the Discovery channel- are getting kids to think that tinkering and fabricating stuff is cool. they made being a "hands on" mechanic seem cool to kids again. i for one think it's about time they showed stuff like that on tv. maybe it will cause a few kids to maybe walk away from the tv and DO SOMETHING creative with their hands besides getting past the last level of whatever brain numbing video game they are currently addicted to. if a few examples of classic iron have to perish to make it happen, so be it. they die a noble death. be honest- how many of you have never destroyed some rare and now valuable piece of American iron when you were young and knew it all?

i think its great, better than most of the garbage on tv. have you looked at most of the things on nickelodeon, some of these new cartoons are just totally mindless bull****. i think having some kid want to grow up to be a mechanic is alot better than them thinking they are gonna grow up designing video games. most of these kids will graduate highschool having NO skills whatsoever, and all they know how to do is watch TV, and play video games. i look at my brother and just wonder what he's gonna do. he rarely even leaves the house. his interests include: halo, starcraft, and some other game i cant remember

The 1955 Nomad wagon that was crushed by the I-beam on Tool Time was a fiberglass replica of Tim Allen's real wagon. It was a very realistic reproduction. Tim is too much of an enthusiast to destroy a rare vehicle like that.

Yea,itll have kids wanting to be a mechanic alright, they'll want to buy up old cars like that and put them on 4wd frames and make boats out of them,If they are going to do something like that with classics they need to have a show on restoring them in 7 days.just my opinion.

Yes I totally agree!

The point is, there is absolutely no reason to use old cars for these things. With all the crap cars around from 80 on up, why destroy an old collector car? Actually, it's an antique. The Elcamino was made to 87 wasn't it? Why use a 1970? (and even worse, possibly an SS) I think Jesse James is probably doing this on purpose because he knows it gets extra attention. What does he care? Im sure he knew it would raise a big stink.

He already admitted that he took alot of flack about cutting up a hearse. While I don't see a big demand in hearses, almost everyone loves Chevy's! This will mean ratings for sure! I knew it was only a matter of time. I really thought it would be an old Impala but wait, there's still time...

I wonder how he would feel if someone took a flame thrower to something he liked? Maybe an old Indian motorcycle? LOL Of course, I could hear his sarcastic response already. What would he say???

Probably the best thing to do is to simply ignore it. Getting pissed is exactly what they want. That ElCamino is toast as I write this so not much going to save it now. :(

Hopefully they got the rules of the figure 8 races, unlike the demo car one were they had to take off most of the stuff the put on it.

meh, it's their car, they should be able to do whatever they want with it.
(sounds reminicient of a "Clone SS" thread ;) )

Those guys have some amazing fabricating skills. Although it seems like they only really get anything done on the first 2 days and the last day, what are they actually doing the rest of those days?

Well of course they can. I don't think anyone is suggesting that the car should be forcibly taken away from them. But we have every right to say it's revolting, just as they have every right to exercise their bad taste.

Well, like I said in the other thread, I'm just not going to watch it. By watching it you give them reason to do it again, by not watching it you deny them of their marketing getting to you. So, I'm just not going to watch any monster garage episodes where they destroy a classic car for shock value. If they have an episode where they are destroying cookie-cutter new cars again, and are actually turning them into something cool (im getting sick of them all turning into race cars) then i'll watch it

They are rare enoughf and all of them can be restored by someone. I hope its not an SS BB

I would never be satisfied to look at it that way myself. I like Chevelles and all old cars, even the ones I don't own. Im not in it for the value. When I bought my cars, it was in what I like to call, the "transitional years" where no one wanted them. (the 80's) People wanted to get rid of their old cars and buy Citations. LOL Most of my cars I picked up for a song but to sell them today, I'd make out like a bandit.

Getting back to the topic, I was just over at the TV guide site and here's what the show is about:

Monster Garage
El Camino; Figure 8 Race Car
60 mins.

Jesse and the team transform an El Camino Super Sport 402 into a Figure 8 race car.

Rating: TV-PG

Release Year: 2003

Looks like not only an SS but a big block too. Im not sure if I even want to watch. I think we should find Jesse James and transform him into something. graemlins/angry.gif (how about road kill?)

What is the diffrence if they modify it on T.V. or some guy lets it sit in his backyard for 20 years with the intent to "restore it someday" ? I have a '65 Camino and I thought the show would be pretty cool. Bottom line is it's just a car.

I'd like to see them tear up a Rolls Royce, BMW, or Mercedes Benz.

I'll be watching tonight, maybe out of morbid curiousity.

Wathing it right now. Missed the first 20min though.

Whos the jackass in bare feet working in the shop? What a friggin moron.

It seems I missed the part about him making fun of us. Ill be staying up to see the second run to see exactly what he said.

I had a Elky stolen just like that (no vynil top) and I know this is going to turn out bad.

Funny, seeing as thats seems to be EXACTLY what bike week in Daytona and Sturgis are all a-friggin-bout. graemlins/angry.gif I admire Jesse' skills, but man he can **** me off sometimes.

I wonder what jesse would think if someone buchered up one of his choppers like he did to that elky!!

cjlandry
Sep 15th, 03, 11:06 PM
That's exactly what I'd do. I said so in another thread in Bench Racing. I'd love to chop a "West Coast Chopper" just for the hell of it. I'd particularly love to see the reactions of his fans.

I'd even more love to chop one of the OCC bikes from "American Chopper". Paul Sr. is a poser who's riding on his son's talent. I'd love to see what that boy could do if his old man would leave him alone with some tubing and a disassembled engine and drivetrain.

I really admire the fabrication skills that Jesse has. And I think his choppers are cool. But if I had one I'd chop it to suit my own tastes. I would cut open the fuel tank just to see his welds from the inside.

The man is good at what he does, and he knows it. Unfortunately, he knows nothing about modesty.

As a 70 el camino owner i was kinda blown away by the way they chopped it up without any regard to those precious hard to find parts assuming they were original and not reproduction. Like the rear bumper they just let fall to the floor after the last bolt was loosened.
And Jesse was right, he wont be getting invited to any Chevy picnics in the near future lol
I can only hope we wont see any classic Chevelles being butchered up in shows to come.

I'm surprized no one noticed that the car is a 71 and not a 70,...grin...It was sad to see them cut it up like that.
The guy that Jesse bought it from came by to see it while they were butchering it, I wonder what he said after he was off camera???

yeah i was soo mad last night when i seen them chopping up an origional 71 SS 402 elky, i mean C*MON!! . i was getting mad when i was telling my dad what he was doing. i really hate when someone destroys somthing that is worth alot and a collector peice as well. i mean did anyone of yas take notice to that chrome on the bumpers and bezels up front. i mean they are in awesome shape.

how about the previous owner of the elky when he came in and the Fbomb was flying. he was like thats it cut it no more. i thought it was funny but it wa so true.

i say we invite jesse to a chevy picnic and beat him up just for it. hehe

i would also like to see a show where they took one of his most precious bikes and just cut it all up and made it look like total poop.

anyways enough ranting.

I saw the show last night and it was a shame. they could have used a rust bucket for racing instead of a nice car. I own a 70 el camino and that one was nicer than mine. I would have traded him. I still would have watched the show if they used a 1980 station wagon. I know it's his car to destroy. It's just kind of stupid.
