I have a 69 chevelle 383 stroker. I have put 3 different starters on this motor thinking the solenoid was stuck, but it still keeps spinning with the engine when running. There is only 2 wires going to the starter, 1 skinny purple wire going to the S side of the starter, and the main battery cable going to the battery. I cant figure out why this keeps happening. I dont know what to do anymore. Any feedback greatly appreciated. Oh yea, I dont have any grounds from the motor to the frame yet, or the body to the frame. Please help.

I would start by finishing up grounding the motor. Then if need be....try a starter shim to see if it helps. I had a similar problem a few years ago in my Elky. Tried a new solenoid...still stayed engaged. Put a shim in...no probs since.

Had the same problem on my 1966 malibu , found several splices in the purple ignition wire that runs from ignition to the solinoid , car was converted at some point from auto to 4 spd and the safty nuetral switch was bypassed also several other splices inside engine compartment. Ripped it all out and replaced with 16 gauge wire and starter hasn't locked up since
good luck

u could do what was done on my car, and just mount another solenoid on the fenderwell, cause they fry so easy, might as well not have 2 crawl under the car 2 get at it
