I'm having my windshield replaced and the band at the top of the new windshield is blue, where the old one was brown. The old one wasn't original to the car but I'm wondering anyway. Thanks.

Shawn. My glass supplier told me that there is a number on each piece of tinted car glass telling the color. This should help you to match your windshield with the side windows.

I'm referring to the dark tinted part at the top half of the windshield.

Mine is brown to did it do this from age or is it made that way?? It cast a strange but cool looking tint sometimes.

Band is/should be Blue...any brown band would just be 30+ yrs. of aging.

My 72 Elcamino is brown too and I think it is correct for some colors of cars. Mine was metalic gold when new so that may be the reason but I don't have any hard facts.

rusty66 is correct. A buddy of mine works at a glass shop and hooked me up.

My windshield (tint stripe) and rear window are a dark silver tint. He told me you could get blue, gold or silver. There may be other colors too, but that is just what they had.
